Feb 10, 1940: After divvying up Poland with Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia begins mass deportations of minorities and others to Siberia. Those unwilling were executed.

An estimated 1 million Polish were forcefully deported, with 90-100k dying in the process.

Feb 9, 2020: President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador entered the Legislature with armed soldiers, trying to force their approval of an international loan for his security plans.

Many believe Bukele was inspired by Trump's Jan 6th actions. The difference: their Legislature & Supreme Court fought back.

our local library has deliberately made the youth area THE community‘s safe, free, well staffed gathering spot M-F from 3 PM until closing, and on weekends. everyone in the community gets it that the library will be noisy and busy during those times, and the rest of the time, quiet. amazing success.

Feb 8, 1968: 200 students in Orangeburg, SC hold a protest over police beatings 2 nights prior. When police moved in, the students threw debris, injuring 1.

5 minutes later, the kids gathered not knowing over 60 cops were hidden nearby. They were fired upon, 3 dying.

The cops gloated afterwards.

No, that's not a typo.

But slavery was a long time ago, right? For the black community, America's darkest tradition never really went away. White folk just moved on without killing the monster they alone created.

Feb 5, 1988: Manuel Noriega, dictator of Panama, is indicted in US courts for drug smuggling, money laundering, & racketeering.

US forces invaded Panama a year later, where he was captured & jailed on US soil until 2010. He was ultimately returned via France to a Panama jail in 2011, dying in 2017.

Feb 3, 1971: NYC Detective Frank Serpico is shot in the face while attempting an arrest.

It's believed he was set up by colleagues, who were angry over testimony Serpico gave against police corruption.

His work sparked a national debate and NYC investigation, which he still speaks out on today.

Frank Serpico was shot on 3 February 1971, after exposing corruption in the NYPD. The following year, the BBC reported on the "widespread" rot in the Big Apple's police force.
