The California Nebula. It's around 5.5 hours taken with my ZWO 294MM camera and the new SVBONY dual narrowband 3nm filter. Color was added using my single emission line Ha and OIII filters (also around 5 hours each filter). #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

NGC 281 (aka the Pacman Nebula) in SHO. It's about 20 hours total integration time taken with an f/6 scope and 294MM camera. I'm not quite sure it is finished, and feel like it needs another 40 hours, lol. But that's #astrophotography I guess. Maybe I'll try reprocessing. @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

This is an SHO image of the Orion Nebula in disguise. I used pixelmath in @siril.org to make it mimic an RGB image. Total exposure time is around 12 hours, taken with an f/6 80mm refractor and ZWO 294MM camera. #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

It's currently visible in our early morning skies. I just need one good weekend night to go somewhere to image it! Anyone else trying for it?

Sometimes when you pair fast telescopes in #astrophotography to filters that aren't made for them, you will lose signal. Cuiv (aka "the lazy geek") created a spreasheet a while back. I made an app to make things a bit more user friendly. Check out how to use it here: youtu.be/lcK6m1MA6V4

How did we miss the OIII arc next to Andromeda for so long? I try to answer this in my newest #astrophotography video, presenting three possible answers.

Why can't we see gorillas? Or rather, giant nebulae?

I'm starting to analyze some narrowband data from different filters (5nm SVBONY SHO filters, 3nm Dual Narrowband SVBONY and Optolong 12nm SHO filters). But... before I do that...

I just posted a video with 130 #astrophotography terms that will probably be really helpful for anyone starting out. I analyzed 2 million words from online forums, found the most common terms, and explain them. I may have missed a few, but there is a lot here.

Know someone new to astrophotography? For the past few months, I've tried creating a list of the most used astro terms that beginners need. I analyzed over 2 MILLION words from beginner forums, figured out the most common 130+ terms and made a video. It will be released in less than 24 hours.

I've been testing out some new 5nm SHO filters (fully funded by me and my YT and BMC supporters; not sent to me) on several targets. This is a test of the heart nebula (IC 1805). It's about 1.5 hours for each filter (so, about 4.5 hours total).

There are a ton of galaxies in this image. In the middle are NGC 6045 and 6047. If you zoom in and look, there are edge on galaxies, interacting galaxies, merging galaxies. It's a galaxy extravaganza!

NGC 6384 is such a beautiful galaxy, and a great example of an intermediate barred spiral. I got around 14 hours of integration time at f/10 with my Celestron C8. It's still too noisy at the edges, and definitely needs more time.

I've been experimenting with my S24 to capture the milky way. I'm skeptical of Samsung's ability to take a picture of it using its camera app. I'm just not sure how much of it is AI enhancement. So, I used a separate app with all the AI features turned off to take raw images. I stacked them in Siril
