I've been doing #genealogy since I was eight. I created this account along with "A Deck of Ancestors" blog, for participating in Amy Johnson Crow's #52Ancestors Challenge. (I'm also @vanderfluit.bsky.social)

I started the #52Ancestors Challenge in January 2022 over at the dead bird site, so Week 1 of my first year of participating isn't here. So I thought I should re-share the genesis of this account and provide a bit of a reintroduction. #genealogy

So, went on to the Irish Newspaper Archive website, forgetting the site revamp has gone live and oh, my GOD it's a massive improvement. Way more smooth when trying to view pages with more than 10 results to them. [and the infinite loading screens] - still getting used to the search, but good so far!

I spent most of the year months behind in the #52Ancestors Challenge 2025, but suddenly seem to have gotten ahead of myself! So while it's not yet Week 49, I'm going to post about my Gx3 Grandfather, Jacob Anton, anyway. 😋 #genealogy #FamilyHistory

More trying to "level up" my research as part of the #52Ancestors Challenge, this time with my Great x3 Grandmother, Margaretha Bechler. Not only is there much I don't know, some of what I did know was likely wrong. #genealogy #FamilyHistory

The DNA cousin reveal is always my favourite part of Finding Your Roots. If the episode doesn't have one, I get grumpy. 😁 #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

They would feel threatened by that quote.

I feel *energized* by it.

While I'm ostensibly doing @amyjohnsoncrow.bsky.social's #52Ancestors Challenge, this year it turned into @yhoitink.bsky.social's #LevelUp Challenge. For example, my Gx3 Grandfather, Valentine Schmidt, went from 1+ to a 2-. 🤣 #Genealogy #FamilyHistory
