Awareness alone isn’t enough. Prejudice & misinformation also make people “aware,” just of the wrong things. Real awareness isn’t about fear or debate, it’s about truth, care & responsibility. Trans people aren’t abstractions; they’re friends, neighbors & family, all deserving safety, dignity & joy.

I get asked about whether I'm scared of the NSPM-7 more than any other question of late. That makes sense since I'm pro-democracy, outspokenly opposed to fascism, and an anti-capitalist. The list targets people like me. So, here's my response (w/ a little @timothysnyder.bsky.social for context):

Intersex people have traits that don’t fit normative definitions of male or female bodies. Intersex Awareness Week (Oct 26–Nov 1) recognizes the beauty of human diversity and affirms that intersex rights are human rights. Every body deserves dignity, care, and autonomy. #intersexawareness

The topic may seem unrelated from the view of a non-trans person but in reality it is. Have a 1-on-1 talk w/ them to understand their view/needs, see if there are ways to incorporate their insights into lectures. Also, ask yourself why u think this might be unprofessional & look at your motivations

I like this ICE reporting acronym much better than prior ones: “CLEAR.”
C - count
L - location

I also joined because of poverty in a way. My family wasn’t necessarily poor but they wouldn’t pay for me to go to college. So I left home via the only method I saw available to me. He’s completely correct on all points here and I wish there were more white vets that spoke out about this. 👏👏👏

UC Berkeley has provided Trump with the names of at least 160 students, faculty and staff in cases of alleged antisemitism, including philosopher Judith Butler, in response to the administration’s sweeping crackdown on Palestinian solidarity activism.

“wellness” culture feeds directly into eugenics.

It perpetuates the idea that disability is a moral failing.

That we can “try harder” our way out of it and if we can’t, we didn’t really “want” to get better.

It makes it easier to punish the sick & poor.

Disability is not a moral failing.
Keep bending that knee 👍🏻

Ohio State bans sidewalk chalking ahead of new school year
Some people said the decision is limiting students' freedom of speech.

This decision doesn’t protect students, it insults them. It signals that Ohio State values control over courage, and order over open thought. And it makes clear, yet again, that the university has chosen cowardice when boldness is most needed.

The irony, of course, is that universities should be the last places to fear chalk. If chalk drawings can threaten the intellectual life of THE Ohio State University, then perhaps the problem is not the chalk but the institution’s fragility.

Let’s be clear: it's not about clean sidewalks or 'safety'. It’s about compliance. It's about suppression. It’s about teaching students that creative, visible, and benign expression is unwelcome. It’s about telling them to stay quiet and in line, rather than to think, question, or engage.

Dear The Ohio State University,
Great job erasing free expression. Banning chalking, a harmless, temporary, & joyful form of speech, is a remarkable show of misplaced priorities. Sidewalk chalk, beloved by children everywhere, is now treated as too subversive for a major university?
