Wherein Danielle Smith says the quiet part out loud: that she WANTS to fight with Ottawa, because it shores up her dimwitted base at home.

Ahhh hey guys you know how I've been telling you for years that all your problems are because of people's last names & Ottawa? Yeah well that was only to get a good deal for my fossil fuel overlords. So like, all this separatist stuff isn't good now, so you'd better stop.
Plenty of boobirds as Danielle Smith continues to make the pitch that Alberta and the feds are making progress on their partnership.

Come on now aren't we really just trying to figure out who the best liar is? For sure that's the person we should support. 🙃😵‍💫
‘Carney doesn’t actually want a pipeline or think one will get built, he’s just a duplicitous weasel’ is not the defence you think it is.

Fossil-fuel companies didn’t just respond to demand they spent decades creating it. They pushed governments to build highways, pipelines, gas systems, and car-dependent cities, locking society into fossil use. Through lobbying they secured subsidies, blocked clean-energy policies,

States are captured by fossil‑fuel dependence economically and geopolitically. This is really at the heart of the problem of the energy transition. It's empires not just energy. But, that doesn't change reality. Climate change is real. We are very, very close to climate catastrophes that are going

I tried to write a summary of what has transpired in the last 48hrs in Canadian politics & like so many times in the last few years I'm left wondering if I've been transported to some alternate universe.

People begrudgingly turned a blind eye to a pipeline because there were meaningful climate actions associated with it. (tmx) Now that most of those have been betrayed, you can't expect support for yet another pipeline. Fool me once and all that.

All I can say is that I really, really, really hope there is a party & leader somewhere in Canada that is interested in truly bringing Canada into the new economy. Fast. Otherwise we are going to be left with a nursery rhymer as our next leader. We tried elbow dancing, lets not do nursery rhymes too
Canada and Alberta are focused on what we can control: building a stronger, more sustainable, more competitive, and more independent economy together.

Whoa. It’s called “zoom” - quite a way to respond to the Coastal First Nations request for a meeting especially when he refused to meet them before the MOU that directly affects them was announced - while doing over 50 meetings with fossil fuel lobbyists.
HODGSON: It's called Zoom. I think that's what we're using.

COCHRANE: I understand. But I'm also not a Coastal First Nation Chief.

Shocking what happens when you tell your base for years that the sole source of their grievances are people's last names & the capital of our country.

There is a term in the military called the “asymmetry of commitment.” Neutrality in asymmetric conflict = structural advantage to the aggressor. This is how & why fascism is winning. This is how and why we are losing on disease control & climate change. It's not because of the "bad guys".

I'm actually not dreaming nostalgically about the past, I'm looking squarely at a bleak future for my children hoping beyond hope that someone in a position to action something meaningful for their future will do something. Thanks for being clear (now) that it isn't the liberals.
People who care about climate change are “dreaming nostalgically about the past.” - Minister Hodgson

Gotcha. That explains a lot.

This afternoon, I informed the Prime Minister of my decision to resign as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Minister responsible for Official Languages, Minister of Nature and Parks Canada, as well as his Lieutenant in Quebec.

You can find my full statement below.

The absolute worst & most dishonest climate change denial comes from centrists who lie about things like carbon capture or master chess games to further the destruction of our children's future. Far, far more evil than the straight up conspiracies sold by the far right.

Remember the first choice of the Alberta separatists, their base & the industry that supports them was to destroy Canada. They spent vast sums of taxpayer money to accomplish this goal & even enlisted the fascists in the US. For the elbow dancer to reward them is obscene. Spin that however you want.
Premier Smith and I have agreed to a framework built on shared ambitions — to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, unlock the full potential of Alberta’s energy resources, and build a stronger, more sustainable, more competitive economy.
