Well, I think that this does a good job in pointing out how ridiculous Niall Ferguson's defences of Trump are.

Unprincipled and weak. The murder of journalists is perhaps the single most direct violation of the right to freedom of speech. (1/2)
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Orbán keeps referring to the poet and 1848 revolutionary, Sándor Petőfi, when giving speeches on not aiding Ukraine.

Weird.

During the 1848 revolution Petöfi was captured by the invading Russians, who deported him & several thousand Hungarians to prison colonies in Siberia, where they disappeared.

I think Europe is still holding on to a belief that "everything will be fine" and is letting its actions be guided by that.

"Everything will be fine, the Russians will bleed out, and then collapse"

When the approach we should be taking is to be proactive and aggressive.
Why did you ever think that things were ever gonna be good, buddy? You saw the way it was, you saw the trajectory, you should’ve figured it out by now.

"Chrupalla" by the way is the Germanised form of the Polish last name "Chrupała"

In German politics the most german, German, to ever german, is always a Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz
A leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Russia doesn’t pose a threat to his country — but that Poland potentially does.
AfD leader says Putin poses no threat to Germany, warning instead of Poland
The comments come as mainstream German politicians increasingly portray the far-right party as a fifth column promoting the Kremlin’s interests.

It's long overdue that the term "Eurasianism" is reclaimed by those who deserve the term. "Eurasian Studies" is a field in which you study the histories, politics, cultures, and languages of the peoples of Central Asia. This is a great book to start that journey.

There is something really obscene about all this. Some Muscovite trollop wearing a Circassian Papakha (hat), wielding a Chechen Shashka (sword), rapped in a Polish Zupan (coat), while calling herself a "Mongol" for a bunch of uncultured Westerners too dim witted to see through this mess.

Putin’s war or Russia’s war? At the level of responsibility, Russia’s war. At the level of guilt, Putin’s war. That’s because there is such a thing as responsibility by association, but no such thing as guilt by association.

⚡️The Ukrainian Parliament raised the Czech flag next to Ukraine’s as a sign of gratitude for Czech support against Russian aggression.

Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk recalled Czech solidarity since 2022 and Havel’s warning that "Russia of course still doesn't know where its borders are."

Good on our sensible parties to put up Ukrainian flags in their offices
What an actual fucking loser. First act is to remove a symbol of solidarity for a country currently holding off a Russian onslaught on Europe, enduring tremendous suffering. Also, why the fuck would you keep the Israeli flag then?

Today, Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi announced that she will not seek reelection and is retiring at the end of her term.
