Other more subtle issue is that it isn't really illegal to use wordsum tests on applicants but it creates a huge disparate outcomes risk.

Not worth it when a person's IQ is pretty easily discernible within a range and precision less important than Big 5 personality/experience/even attractiveness.

This is completely wrong.

Don't misunderstand. There is a much more plausible case against American higher ed.

But employers have thousands of ways to figure out if you have a high IQ or a low IQ.

They can usually guess pretty accurately simply by having a 30 second conversation with you.

In the state contracted Catholic schools in France there are also still some protections for non Catholics who want to attend. You will not be forced to participate in a faith you don’t believe in.
December 1, 2025 at 5:40 PM
The French version of school vouchers is more like “charter schools where religion is allowed”. Or “private schools that have to teach state curriculum.” If you want to be more literal.

This would be a very useful compromise in the USA if it was possible.

The Stockton shooter is believed to be gang related. Well known more when he’s apprehended but this plausibly is a tragedy that could have been prevented with mass incarceration.

I think these tweets are really silly at this point. These are obviously political appointments, no one cares about their qualifications.

I'm sad Gorsuch is on the court. But it's about the same as if Kidd Rock was on the court, the vote would be no different.

I get what the QT post is saying but it's really antiquated that we don't have more objective standards for evaluating students to begin with in higher ed.

Give them exams and have an AI tool evaluate their writing. Profs mostly hate grading anyways.

This is largely true, though I sometimes wonder if people who say this are a little harsh on Michael. I think he may still crack the top 20.

But magic, Bird, Barkley, John Stockton. Yeah they would be absolutely underwhelming.

Jerry West meanwhile probably couldn't play for Tel Aviv Macabees.

Ok.... I vaguely sort of know who some of these people are.

But who's upper left?
And the center center
And the bottom center.

The woman center right looks very mean spirited. So I think it's Kesha? Or is it just someone who's also really mean spirited.

We don't need voters who read books. This discussion should just be dead in the water as pointless status signalling.

The artificial womb could be the game changer to raise the birthrates in secular societies.

Even if only 20% of babies were grown this way, that could bring us to sustainable levels.

Scientists prompt hopes for an artificial womb within generations
The prospect of creating a womb entirely outside of the human body is becoming evermore likely, as Femtech World reports. Scientists are working to develop systems that mimic the human uterus and to m...

I’m not a big fan of the environmental movement but I’d love to live long enough to where you only saw electric vehicles in nyc. Think of how much quieter and cleaner it would seem.
November 30, 2025 at 10:58 PM
NYC has too many cars.

It sucks that mamdani is a pro terrorist guy but this is a solid step. Keep on the path of Michael Bloomberg and I'll dislike you less when this is all over.
November 30, 2025 at 10:36 PM
I would love to see a balls out "confrontation with Putin" type emerge as President in 2028 but I just don't see it. President John Bolton (D). Sure.

Whoever the Democrats elect will be better than orangeman. But let's say it's Gavin. Umm...still a let down. He'll more just gell with euros.

Iraq was a mistake.

Afghanistan was not.

Like if a terrorist group that was sheltered by the Houthis did a 9/11 style attack we'd absolutely go in the same way today in Yemen.

Someone who puts Afghanistan up there on a list of failures is just going to be in head scratch territory for me.

The low economic growth in Canada is due to poor choices they made on economic policies.

The USA has plenty of boomers but we don't have the same problem, our balance sheet is fine. Perhaps our boomers are just better than yours.
November 30, 2025 at 8:36 PM
obviously low fertility rates do create a lot of cross generational tension because it isn't just about "my lazy grandkids" but "someone else lazy grandkids." immigration etc, they're from another a country.

But the obsession with housing as the only type of asset becomes old.
November 30, 2025 at 8:33 PM
The fix for social security will be: raise the retirement age.

The fix for Medicare will be:

a bare bones "canadian style" system for the poor with waiting lists. Combined with some kind of high premium/large copayments for the 70% of seniors who are not really poor.

If you asked me to name the greatest box office flop (high qualify, lost money) I'd go with Scorsese's Hugo. (2011)

It's a children's film that many enjoyed and no one recommended to their friends. A bit too bbc vibes.

But you know, exactly what you'd expect Scorsese to do with a kids film.
November 30, 2025 at 7:08 PM
Plano boomer would totally go for Texas independence.

Except the inconvenience of getting a passport for his summer trips to Winstar makes it not quite worth it.
November 30, 2025 at 5:38 PM
The Right has mostly given up for making excuses for W Bush and Iraq.

But the Left is still trying to rehabilitate LBJ.

You don’t get to hand waive away a disastrous and poorly planned war.

The most cringe response from leftists over whether the USA should remove maduro from power in Venezuela is “would you like Canada to remove Trump from power?”.

Repeat after me: “America is a special country”. I need you to accept this.
November 30, 2025 at 3:41 AM
Everyone I know who comes back from Paris says everyone hated macron. Deeply skeptical.

Yes everyone haters him but they have no agreement on who to replace him with. That’s how being a centrist work.
November 29, 2025 at 7:22 PM
If your social security taxes went directly and solely to your parents, would that make you happy or even more resentful.
November 29, 2025 at 7:08 PM
TIL there are more people living in Queens, NY born in China than from any Latin American country.

Now I'm not sure if PR was a country, if that would be higher than China so idk.
