I pointed this out in 2024. Many joined the party in 2019 over Europe and then the party grew scared of talking about Europe until 2024 so, guess what, membership halved. Be braver and build it up again. Stop worrying about upsetting the declining number of brexiters.

No surprise that the Home Secretary has announced new plans to curb protest. Balir did the same. Starmer has not repealed Tory constraints on protest. Labour always was an authoritarian party. Don't hold your breath for Labour MPs to rebel when the new laws are debated. They won't.

September is always a busy month but this year exceptionally. First, the wedding of the year and the best Last Night of the Proms for years. Second, a v gd LibDem Conference, well reported by BBC for a change. Third, England women have just won the Rugby World Cup. I shall have to lie down.

Attended 2 alumni events, Chris Smith, Cambridge Chancellor & Vince Cable on his book "Eclipsing the West". Vince says UK must hedge its bets, keeping on good terms with the West and China & India. Asked Chris re government & universities. Replied money for universities good for UK economy & growth.

I have met and even chaired this guy and never agreed with him. I also assumed that Blue Labour had no significant influence on the Labour Party. I hope that is still true.

Congressional checks and balances to the president have failed because of the abject cowardice of the republicans but I still hold some hope for the slow processes of the courts.
