Happy birthday to the Soviet linguist Yuri Knorozov who casually deciphered the Mayan script in 1952 and got pissed when editors removed his cat as co-author on papers or cropped her out of his author headshot (the only picture of himself he even liked)

👀 Zohran Mamdani used some of his final remarks to encourage the role of the federal government in social welfare and basically pitch a new New Deal. He praised Trump’s inclusion of a portrait of FDR in the White House. Trump talks about how Mamdani asked for a photo in front of it when he arrived.

I listened to the Giles Martin 2022 remix of this last week. Wonderful but this mono mix hits harder somehow. The best Beatles album and possibly my favorite of their songs.
Today's vinyl, after a Thought Bubble break, is Revolver, the album I have more (four) vinyl copies of than any other -- 80s stereo pressing, mono box version, and the mono and Giles Martin mixes in the deluxe box set.
Today I listened to the box set, including the outtakes and EP.

Please read this wonderful and important piece by Chris. (It’s short.) I had never read the words of E.B. White that Chris quotes here, and I’m extremely glad I now have.
NEW: Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about.

DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.

I’ve become obsessed with making a low cost, DIY planetarium dome with a negative pressure screen. With the right pattern of gores, the screen (and outside cover) could be made of Tyvek. Here’s the math.

We need videos from optical gas imaging cameras for CO₂ emissions.
What you see without an OGI camera vs what you see with an OGI camera.

What you are seeing in a plume of methane and VOCs.

You can see how it is so easy for them to ignore the ongoing systemic methane pollution.
