Bluesky pals! I have a sci-fi graphic novel called DRIVE, & it's my favorite thing I've ever done! If you need a long, escapist read at the moment the entire thing is free to read, here: drivecomic.com
(THIS PAGE: What's New in Du Fu?)
PANEL 1: A NYX alien, a rhino-like creature with a pointed crest and a single horn on it’s nose, works on a piece of machinery.
LOCATION: Du Fu
NARRATION: The Nyxian understanding of “love” is vastly complicated. It is a multi-layered, nested conceit.

PANEL 2: The NYX working on machinery pulls down welding goggles to block the bright white light of his welder.
NARRATION: Philosophers, philologists, and cognitive linguists have spent decades trying to decode it.

PANEL 3: The NYX welding is now in the background, as another NYX carries an armful of corded plugs. His eyes are furrowed and serious.
NARRATION: Much like the Nyx themselves, it remains a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

PANEL 4: The NYX carrying the corded plugs walks out a doorway, eyes furrowed.
NARRATION: But the fundamental truth is this: the Nyx had come to genuinely, whole-heartedly LOVE Governor Sebastián. THE LOVED HIM.

PANEL 5: We see the NYX carrying the corded plugs walk towards a window where another NYX points at what we see. Outside the window, looking in to space, hover 3 large new rings ships, in various forms of completion. These ships looks a little fish-like, with fins jutting out the top and bottom, with aztec-like architecture. Large rings stick out the end of the ship, connected by triangular architecture. Attached to the side are large dark cannons.
NARRATION: And as we all know: LOVE IS THE GREATEST MOTIVATOR …. when building a fleet of revenge starships.

I’ve never seen this before! An *inward-indicating* word-balloon tail (that’s the speaker’s right arm descending below the word balloon).

FASCINATING! Does this tail technique have a name? Have folks seen it used elsewhere?? I have so many questions!!! (From HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37)

TODAY'S COMIC: Fortune Favors the Bold!
This single-panel comic shows a big tree with forking branches - perfect for climbing. The grass below is green, the sky behind is blue. The foliage of the tree is thick and green. Standing wide across one of the forking branches high up is DIGBY, a brown dashchund. Below on the ground is OSO, a fawn pug, looking up at DIGBY.
DIGBY: Fortune favors the bold.
OSO: Gravity don’t.

COMIC: The Ice Cream Cycle
PANEL 1: GRAMP, an older bald man with a grey mustache, stands in the dark, eating directly from a tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
NARRATION: It’s 11pm, so you have a bite of ice cream. Bu then one bite turns into 20.

PANEL 2: We see GRAMP in the drivers seat of his car.
NARRATION: And 20 turns into eating the entire pint. Which means you have to do a late-night drive to the supermarket and REPLACE the pint, so no one notices.

PANEL 3: GRAMP holds the pint of ice cream, looking at it.
NARRATION: But here’s the kicker…

PANEL 4: GRAMP goes back to eating the ice cream.
NARRATION: You now have to eat the new pint DOWN TO THE LEVEL IT WAS BEFORE.

A really good episode of COMICLAB: youtu.be/zr3aMZ_uhx0?...

Lots of very insightful input, and Brad * Dave make a very solid point about the very IDEA of a comics "must-read" list!

That said, what's on YOUR list?
