Mayoral candidate Jeromy Farkas said such incidents have been heartbreaking. "It's a strong
reminder that public safety is bigger than crime," he said. "It's about safe routes for kids, crosswalks
that protect seniors and neighbourhoods where every family feels at ease, and it's really been a bleak issue in this campaign."
He added that the problems stems from inadequate engineering, the absence of proper design and a lack of education about road safety.
"It's also about enforcement - we need to ensure
that the rules of the road are adhered to, and greater partnership with organizations like, say, school boards to be able to prioritize the local needs on a community level," he said.

Only one mayoral candidate responded to the Herald about this story, and I find that deeply frustrating. Safe streets should be an election issue.
