Vets already experience mental health challenges at far higher rates than the general population. As we tackle unfair business practices, we must also support and respect the people who dedicate their lives to caring for our animals.

And it’s devastating for vets too, especially when we have to euthanise animals. Those moments stay with us — we struggle with them long after the surgery lights go out.

It’s heart-breaking to hear of vets and vet nurses facing abuse from angry clients. The vast majority act ethically, work long hours, and always put animal welfare first.

As a vet, I know that individual vets don’t set the prices — corporate owners do. So please, don’t take out frustration on the person in front of you who’s just trying to help your pet.

I’ve long called for an update to the Veterinary Surgeons Act to help achieve this balance — protecting both pet owners and the independent vets who are being squeezed by corporate consolidation.

This inquiry is vital to make sure the big providers are operating transparently — with clear, accessible pricing information — and competing fairly with small independent practices that serve our communities.

Veterinary care is already expensive — there’s no NHS for animals. That’s why I welcome the CMA inquiry into large veterinary businesses which can use their dominant position to raise prices while hiding behind individual vets.

With the cost of living crisis, it can be a real shock for pet owners when they have to take a sick or injured animal — a member of their family — to the vet and face bigger bills than expected.

People are waiting years for mental health support but then end up in A&E in crisis.

It’s time we treat mental health as seriously as physical health.

Political parties that deny climate change exists, or seek to weaponise it as a political football, are no friends of farmers. They are paving the way for deeper losses and long-term damage to British farming.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the gravest public health threats confronting the world.

AMR will cause 39 million deaths by 2050.

This is a direct threat to the UK that demands urgent action, not short-sighted funding cuts.

There's really good organisations, locally & nationally, who are there for support. You just need to ask.

On World Mental Health Day, we have to recognise that there's no stigma in having mental health issues and that we need to treat mental health as seriously as we treat physical health.
dannychambers.bsky.social
We've become very good at counting the costs of mental health care, but ignore the huge value it gives us. People deserve access to good mental health services when they need it. I'll keep fighting to protect our services and ensure mental health is treated as seriously as physical health.

It's World Mental Health Day. At a time when our NHS is under threat & struggling to meet demand despite the amazing efforts of staff, it's so easy for politicians to dismiss mental health & cut services even further as part of their "tough choices" for the economy. I reject this way of thinking.

There is only one way to make this a proper peace and that is a two state solution.

A Palestinian independent state alongside the state of Israel, where both peoples can live in security and dignity.

🚨URGENT! On Monday, the Govt could make last minute changes to the Planning Bill, removing protections for national parks like the South Downs. Join my campaign to save nature. Sign the petition and share!. We must force the government to change their mind.

There is plenty more to do to ensure that the risks to our biosecurity are taken seriously, particularly when it comes to the illegal import of animal products - and I will continue to put pressure on the Government to address these threats to public health.

Brucella canis is an infectious disease affecting dogs and, in some cases, humans. Vets have long been calling for more testing, so it's welcome that the Government has announced - dogs commercially imported from Romania must have a negative Brucella canis test result.

Government decision on mandatory testing for Brucella canis vital step forward for animal and public health
Following years of campaigning, BVA has welcomed news that all commercial dog imports from Romania into Great Britain will be required to undergo mandatory pre-import testing for Brucella canis.

Thanks to the Winchester Litter Pickers for inviting me along to help tidy up our streets. They've fostered a fantastic community atmosphere where people can come along to help and meet new people. I really recommend it!

Two years ago, we witnessed the horror of Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel. 1,200 people brutally murdered, 251 people taken hostage. We have since witnessed Netanyahu's disastrous response, leading to 10s of thousands of deaths in Gaza.
Two years ago today, we witnessed the horror of Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel. 1,200 innocent people brutally murdered, 251 people taken hostage, torn from their homes.

Antisemitism is on the rise around the world and here in the UK. My thoughts too are with the victims of the synagogue attack in Manchester - Adrian Daulby, Melvin Cravitz and their families.

I stand in solidarity with British Jews, Jewish communities around the world and the people of Israel against terrorism and antisemitism in all its forms.

For every day since then, we have witnessed Netanyahu's disastrous response, leading to 10s of thousands of deaths of innocent people in Gaza.

Let us hope that recent peace talks will finally see the hostages returned home to their families, an end to the genocide and Hamas out of power in Gaza for good.

Those responsible for terrorism and genocide must be brought to justice so the people of Israel and the people of Gaza can live in peace.
