Also like, that response to that game is so fucking psychotic. I love video games, and my brother-in-law is in the game industry, but people that take playing games that seriously *in that specific way* are incomprehensible to me.

It’s really interesting. I do think just off the top of my head that there is still a difference between the kind of masculinity at a punk show and the kind that you find among gamers. Both can be very reactionary but I still think there are different in substance.

They tear gassed 13 Chicago police officers. Please watch this footage of federal officers throwing tear gas canisters into crowds of people who are simply observing and recording on their phones. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/14/u...

I feel like there is a good article in here!

Definitely. I mean in the case of Bikini Kill, it definitely matters in so far as it directly informs what they’re doing and the way that they talk about it, right? Like “girls to the front” isn’t just a response, and it isn’t even just preemptive, it’s an explicit way of constituting the space.

For sure, but I think what’s interesting is the details of how these things play out right? Like there’s more to the story than a yes or no here, especially for them as a Canadian band I think it could be an interesting contrast.

the first thing you do when you walk in the door is kick everyone’s puppy? That person only lasted a year as dean but they got tenure and now they’re stuck with them. And I assure you that is not their worst view, these things seem to go hand-in-hand.

When I was in graduate school, they hired a *horrible* person as dean of the dept., gave them tenure and everything, and the first thing they tried to do was destroy the student café. I don’t know how many alarm called in saying they would never donate again, people went nuts, like

Right! I don’t know which of them made me more angry. “Well Jazz you see…” come on man. Or just the “blah blah blah strategic partnerships.”

Black Messiah was easily the record of that decade and—and I don’t say this lightly— definitely one of the greatest of my lifetime. A generational talent.

Highly recommend the book “Girls to the Front” if you haven’t read it already. Also if you want, re: Propagandhi, I can ask Sulynn next time we see them.

And the other guy trying to fucking Jazz-wash this whole thing!

This entire exchange is so infuriating on so many levels. The sort of dead eyed blankness of the president, especially when she’s lying about the one guy being fired and he actually calls it and she just sits there. Where did they get these people?

I really loved this show, especially the final season.

Happy anniversary of the Sudden Departure to all who celebrate. For an @atpost45.bsky.social cluster edited by @ericafretwell.bsky.social and @annakrauthamer.bsky.social, I wrote about the trauma of living to tell (and retell) the tale.

I can’t begin to tell you how damaging “the world isn’t fair, get used to it” line has been to every child’s psyche growing up and therefore has led to a world that stays unfair. If we teach children to get used to an unfair world, we are destroying the possibility of a better world.
