Made it this far. Gunning for Strummer next.
I took a notion to look up how the death of Daniel O'Connell was reported. It was only confirmed in the Freemans Journal a full 10 days after he died, with a letter from one of his doctors that leeches were applied to his temples as a last resource, but in vain...

Cause they know over the next generations there will be a true "mass migration" of humans trying to escape the effects of climate collapse and capitalist resource wars and want to normalise dishing out utter brutality against those people now instead of actually fixing anything.
Why is the UK leading the charge to curb asylum rights under the ECHR? https://aje.io/sjev5z

Are the foxes in that one spot in Dublin still severing brake lines or what?

Hislop needs to get a clue and get her out of Private Eye. He’ll probably make her his successor instead.

This drone incident is very embarrassing for Ireland's neutrality and lack of spending on our military. Red faces all round. Time to grow up and show our partners that we're very serious about... dealing with it as well as they do... [is this right?...]

Germany. Every bit as stained with guilt as the yanks and the Brits.

There are so many fascinating aspects to living through the pandemic and the post-COVID world, yet it has been thoroughly memory-holed (except, ironically, by the shitheads who lost their minds over being expected to help mitigate spread).
Can't remember if it was this bad before COVID but I'm seeing an alarming spreading of what I'll call Airport Behavior to other public places. Obliviousness to other people's existence, ineptitude at navigating the environment. "Is this your first time at the grocery store" type stuff

I don’t know if it’s a passing fad or just a way of selling the same products twice but it was kind of nice to see the new HMV full of teenagers browsing yesterday, and smaller kids queuing to play Pac-Man at a stall selling retro consoles.

I think Bluesky hides posts if you use the word I want to use for Lalas. And he always was.
Lalas: "I think Trump is going to go down as the soccer president, he is invested, he is excited."

Again, the rugby dads and the lads with money to make selling guns want us to rip up our neutrality *for this*

The former was actual antisemitic abuse of Jews by an establishment figure, the latter was support for Palestinian rights. Only one of those things is not permissible in Britain.
Anyone noticed how UK media is a lot less obsessed with Farage’s alleged antisemitism than Corbyn’s alleged antisemitism?

Odd that.

White Man in Hammersmith Palais
Complete Control
Safe European Home
Somebody Got Murdered

would all be in my top 10 or close
Amazingly, the Clash top ten is more or less correct. I’d stick in Clash City Rockers and maybe Wrong ‘Em Boyo myself but no major quibbles

Given how the war in Ukraine is being fought, and now this incident, I would have thought that arguing for a big increase in spending on anything other than anti drone technology and trained operators is absurd.

@rubot.ie do you have copies of your dad’s book? Think I saw you post one time that you don’t? There’s one on eBay for £15

Mary Kenny (that Mary Kenny), 55 years ago. “One thing I feel we can all agree upon is the growing commercialisation of Christmas…”
December 5, 2025 at 10:05 AM
This has been a complaint since the 1970s. At this point surely the orange in a sock (if you were lucky) crowd are mostly dead?
The main purpose of Christmas (these days) is to inculcate children into a culture of unlimited consumption. And no, saying that does not make me a killjoy, it means I can see something profoundly harmful in what could and should be a lovely occasion

No red trim for once. Good. Should have gone with a commemorative crest for the centenary but I suppose we were busy with harakiri.
🔎 A closer look.

Available in-store 4pm today.

It is slightly odd to be told about the bad things ‘our’ adversaries are doing when the Americans are at the same thing tenfold and fuck you. Yes, 1953 wants its tweet back, but at least they used to have to pretend it was for all our good.

You'll note that the 'societal disruption' that was Covid saw these people lose their minds and to this day still bitch and moan about remote working and 'quiet quitting' and all the rest of it.
