Hamas w/ Tareq Baconi
Featuring Tareq Baconi on the history of Hamas. This is the context we need. And it is precisely what mainstream discourse mystifies, denies, and disavows.

A great listen on asset capitalism and its connections to neoliberalism and both MAGA elites and the MAGA base. Reminded me of @patrickwyman.bsky.social's analysis on the landed gentry that holds local power in much of America, with the sharp analytical/historical edge that the Dig usually brings.

This is just crucial listening to make sense of the moment. In fact, its so good I tried to log into my old Patreon account to update my lapsed credit card and reset my The Dig subscription, failed, downloaded the app, reset the password and card no and updated all my old Patreon subscriptions...

Excellent stuff as always from the Dig. Lots of interesting points made, one of which is that class analysis in the US, w/c ascribes 'working class' identity to lack of college education is 50 years old and needs updating. And of course a gendered analysis as can be expected from Melinda Cooper.

A fantastic episode. The art of talking about a big, complex book is perfected, by host and author, to an unbelievable degree.

Essential analysis of the, well for lack of a less cliched phrase, the "stage of global capitalism" we seem to have entered. Kind of a private assets police state.

"freedom to issue debt is not the same thing as unconditional freedom to spend [...] Congress can only keep spending as long as its spending doesn't empower labour [...]. You can spend as much as you like as long as it's subsidizing the inflation of asset prices, not the inflation of wages." (47:30)

Incredibly lucid account of our conjuncture's origins and political stakes.

This sweeping discussion is focused on the US, but there's so much that's directly relevant to the UK's dysfunctional political economy. Covers so much ill have to listen twice I think.

Thrilled to see this review of EXTRACTION by @scottwstern.bsky.social in @theatlantic.com. A very thorough essay that situates the book in broader debates about mining, the energy transition, the history of global capitalism, and the possible green futures ahead www.theatlantic.com/books/2025/1...

In “Extraction,” @triofrancos.bsky.social examines the politics of lithium mining in South America—and the complexities of the energy transition. @materialistjew.bsky.social spoke with her about imperfect trade-offs and the nature of democracy.
Schrodinger’s Element | Ajay Singh Chaudhary
In her new book, Thea Riofrancos homes in on the extraction of lithium—and the thorny problem of an ecologically sound energy transition
