The irony is that one of the reasons Harriet Harman decided not to pursue Badenoch for hacking her website was a belief that more black women in politics was a good thing. So, in a small but salient way, Badenoch owes her position to the very solidarity she now mocks.

I can't remember them constantly hectoring & demanding apologies from Johnson's govt for increasing taxes,not delivering on ANY manifesto promises. Or demanding apologies from Farage & Tories for Brexit.

So my view is that the tax is good policy. There will be inefficiencies and unfairnesses, as with all taxes, but the basic concept is a good one. I wrote more about that in our Budget round-up: taxpolicy.org.uk/2025/11/26/t...
