After COVID too many young people were left not in employment, education or training. That's why the Government is doubling of the number of Youth Hubs around the country - working with football clubs and others to help get young people back on track. See www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic....
Labour is:
✅Strengthening Statutory Sick Pay

✅Establishing day one rights to parental leave

✅Ending exploitative zero-hours contracts

✅Abolishing the scourge of fire and rehire

I was pleased to vote for the Workers Rights Bill last week.
Following our recent meeting with Luke Campbell
to discuss cross-party working on key priorities for Hull and East Yorkshire, Hull's MPs have written to the Mayor about the important jobs, investment and regeneration issues that we covered.
This month's Hull North Hero is Paul Richardson🎉

Since 2019, Paul has transformed Kingswood United FC into more than just a football club. It’s become an integral part of our local community, providing workshops and events for people of all ages.⚽
I'm proud that patients in Hull North and Cottingham have been benefitting from access to quicker NHS care under Labour, with over 34,000 extra appointments delivered in just one year - part of over 5m across England.

This shows that Labour is committed to fixing our NHS.
The Peel Project is a great community organisation in my constituency. They have been working to create a new Community Gym in Central Ward.

They now urgently need to fundraise for fire and security works. You can get involved here: app.investorsincommunity.org/charity/1431...

This landmark legislation - The Public Office (Accountability) Bill - is for the families and campaigners who fought over many years for justice when the State let them down.

With this Bill, we say never again. #Hillsborough Law

The scars from scandals such as Hillsborough, Infected Blood, Post Office Horizon, Grenfell, Windrush, nuclear test veterans and others are etched into the foundations of our country.

After tireless campaigning by the families of The 97, I'm proud that the Hillsborough Law will be introduced in Parliament today.

I visited the Allam Medical Centre at Hull University to meet the Dean of HYMS and the Deputy Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery. We discussed their work in achieving this ranking, the challenges facing the school and our need to train more NHS doctors to serve our area.

Last year, Hull York Medical School was ranked number 5 on The Guardian's list of the Best UK Universities for Medicine. I'm proud that the campus is in my Hull North and Cottingham constituency.

It was a pleasure to visit Grimsby this week to see how Humberside Police are combatting town centre crime, as part of our Safer Streets Summer Initiative.

By restoring neighbourhood policing we will ensure people can feel safe in their communities and local businesses can thrive.
From today, under Ronan's Law, ninja swords will be banned nationwide - with thanks to Pooja Kanda, who campaigned tirelessly in her son’s name, refusing to accept any more lives lost to violence.

This is a vital step in delivering our mission to halve knife crime in a decade.
Questions about the events in 1984 at Orgreave have gone unanswered for too long, undermining trust in our police service - especially in former coalfield communities. To help restore this trust, the Labour Government is launching a Statutory Inquiry to finally get answers.
Was in the Commons Chamber yesterday evening to hear Nick Thomas- Symonds update MPs on further changes to the compensation scheme for those infected and affected in the contaminated blood scandal of the 1970s and 1980s. This follows the most recent recommendations of the Blood Inquiry.
We inherited an immigration system in chaos. In the past year we've made progress removing foreign criminals, cutting the asylum backlog and clamping down on illegal working.

Further Government action to strengthen UK border security is being opposed by the Tories and Reform.
This week, I visited the Marcus Lipton Community Enterprise in Lambeth with @helenhayes.bsky.social to see the London's Violence Reduction Unit’s MyEnds programme in action.

It was fantastic to see community-led violence prevention solutions making a real difference to young lives.
Our mission to halve knife crime requires a radical and holistic approach. Yesterday I met with key retailers and suppliers to discuss how we can increase the manufacture and sale of rounded knives. We are listening and we will stop at nothing to save lives.
Our policing partners are key to building safer communities.

Last week, I joined the AssocPCCs and policing leaders to discuss progress on the Safer Streets Mission.

We’re backing the police to put more officers on the beat, tackle town centre crime and take knives off our streets.
Yesterday, I joined the Police Federation of England and Wales to honour the incredible bravery of police officers across England and Wales.

It was a privilege to stand alongside and recognise those who go above and beyond to protect our communities.
One year ago today, I had the honour of becoming Minister for Policing and Crime Prevention.

It’s been a year of challenges and steadfast commitment to improving public safety across our country.

I’m grateful to the dedicated officers, staff, and community partners I’ve worked with along the way.
