To mark the occasion, we heard from Rachel Boddington, Business Director at Phillips to explain why licensing artworks is more than a technical formality - it’s essential to running an auction house responsibly and sustainably.

Hosted at Phillips London, the evening coincided with their Modern & Contemporary exhibition, working with artists, estates and partners to showcase the creative talent of contemporary artists around the world.

On Monday night, we celebrated the launch of DACS Images - a platform that makes it easier than ever for artists to license their work, built on trust, transparency and fair use.

Royalties are payments that recognise a creators contribution long after the work leaves the studio - whether it’s a painting changing hands at auction, an illustration being published in a book, or a photograph reproduced in a magazine.

Royalties matter – for creators, beneficiaries and the greater creative ecosystem. But what are they? 💰

Just got my DACS royalty payment through and I thank God for this organisation 🙏. If you're an artist who's had stuff published in books/magazines/TV/film and you haven't claimed DACS Payback Scheme before, do it for next year! It's free money, and you're owed it

Glad we could help Stephen, thank you for the lovely feedback!

Schemes like this ensure that artists, illustrators, and visual creators are fairly compensated, providing a vital form of financial support for those in the creative industry.

Our Payback service distributes money to artists, creators and their beneficiaries for certain reuses of their work. It's a type of Collective Licensing that covers secondary uses, like photocopying, scanning and cable retransmission - all of which are difficult to track individually.

It's that time of year again...annual DACS Payback royalties are on their way to members! 💸

In 2025, we're distributing more money to more members than ever before, with over 110,000 visual creators and their representatives receiving a share of nearly £6.2 million.
