Being old when you buy into the long game is too late that's what they tried to fucking tell you and you didn't listen

Stuff like that is almost never in the news. If it was there would be an outrage. Your money is not yours, it’s the banks.

This is not a UK thing, it happens everywhere and not just with “adult money”

Per Reddit: Steam adult developer in the UK is sitting on a USD equivalent of six figures, can’t find a bank to take his money because the developer creates adult games

I develop adult video games on Steam. I can't find a bank that will actually let me withdraw my money from Steam. Can I get some advice?
Game has sold quite well on Steam. I've got almost £90,000 ready to withdraw after Steam's cut + VAT taken off.

However, it's been 2 months now and I can't find ANY bank in the UK who will let me withdraw my money from Steam. I've been banned/refused/unable to get a business account with:

Wise
Revolut
Monzo
Monese
Chase
Starling
Nationwide
Halifax
Barclays
Lloyds
RBS

It always comes down to, "Where did you get this money from?"

"It's coming from games I sell on Steam."

"Can we see the store page?"

"Sure."

"I'm sorry, we can't do business with you at this time."

It keeps coming down to a commercial decision purely because I make adult content.

What the hell am I supposed to do? I've pretty much exhausted the whole banking system. I just want to be able to be paid for products I've sold.

Germany decided not to turn its back on privacy, at the last minute. We're very happy for that.

But we're not out of the woods yet, and awareness raising like this is essential.

We're so relieved to see Germany reaffirm its opposition to the dangerous Chat Control proposal--the one that would mandate mass scanning of communications. Germany's long been a solid champion of privacy, and the news that it was considering backing mass surveillance was alarming. 1/

Since Denmark can attempt another vote in December, it is important to stay vigilant. Both Italy and Sweden remain undecided while France remains supportive despite Chat Control being in direct violation of its Résilience bill explicitly forbidding both forced backdoors and client-side scanning.

Unfortunately technology has advanced and now it’s badly implemented ID checks that result in it getting stolen

Parents cant even use it responsibly and they grew up with it. It’s opium for the masses just like this bill

bans are popular because its easy, the alternative would be admitting that an entire generation of parents and educators have failed their children

Germany's Minister of Justice today: "Suspicionless #ChatControl must be taboo in a state governed by the rule of law." Private communication cannot be placed under general suspicion. "Germany will not agree to such proposals at the EU level."

🇩🇪 Germany is AGAINST Chat Control:

Jens Spahn: "We as the CDU/CSU parliamentary group are against indiscriminate monitoring of chats. That would be like preemptively opening all letters to check whether there's something illegal in them. That's not acceptable, that won't happen under our watch."
Germany voices opposition to Chat Control, tilting the balance.

Don't go spreading around misinformation just because you are annoyed at the state of things or don't understand how it actually technically works. The US Signal debacle was not caused by Signal but by human stupidity. You are helping them destroy your own rights.
ctrlaltwin.bsky.social
Signal (the app) is built on the open source Signal protocol, which is used worldwide by people in oppressive regimes, whistleblowers, almost the entire cyber/infosec sphere, lawyers, etc. Where it is made is irrelevant.

And it is just one of the E2EE apps that are ACTUALLY private.

A government that can be trusted to make use of certain things with decency today might not in 5,10,20,… years. When creating new laws, you always have to think how they can be misused.

NEW: breach of Discord age verification data.

Including some users passports & DLs

Age verification is a badly implemented data grab wrapped in a moral panic.

Mark my words, as age verification mandates expand, we'll end up more surveilled and less secure. 1/

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...
