i want to check in with trump voters. i have one very genuine question: it's been 250 days. now that immigrants have been violently torn from their families and communities have been destroyed, now that trans people have been blamed for virtually everything and live in fear, now that free speech is on the brink of collapse for us all - has your life gotten better? have your groceries gotten cheaper? has your health insurance premium gone down? has your work/life balance improved? can you take a vacation yet? are you happier? has the widespread suffering of others paid off for you in the way he promised it would, or are you still waiting?

25 years ago today I stood on a blockade on the Adams Mine road. In defiance of potential mass arrests we held Thanksgiving dinner for 1,000 people.

Oh, don’t misunderstand. I’m not buying anything that I can avoid from the US. Full stop. But also notice that all the major wine states are blue. And California, in particular, is actively doing the right things. But there are plenty of alternatives to US wine & spirits.

I would argue that BC and Ontario wines are different, not better or worse. Just as I would say the same about French or NZ or Aus wines. But as much as I have enjoyed many an Oregon Pinot and California Zin or Cab, I can find equally enjoyable wines that aren’t American.

Alberta's UCP gov't has funneled ~$2.3B to private & charter schools since 2019, while public education—serving 93% of students—remains underfunded. Private schools got ~$1.58B (70% per-student rate) & charters ~$727M (full rate + $192M capital). This prioritizes "choice" over equity.
