Croydon is fortunate to have 20mph zones on most of its minor roads.

But they're missing from our high streets, and the busiest roads in built-up parts of the borough.

We'd like to see a commitment to extending 20mph borough wide in 2026 manifestos - exceptions only where footfall is negligible.
The evidence is clear - 20mph zones save lives.

In London, they’ve cut deaths and serious injuries by 34% and child fatalities by 75%.

That's why we need to see more 20mph areas.

Be careful out there, people!

Multiple reports of cyclists being mugged for their bikes by moped gangs.

Shirley Church Road (Croydon) and College Road (Dulwich) targeted in recent days.

Keep an eye out for these scumbags and report anything suspicious to the police!

We're at Croydon College today for their Sustainability Fair.

The number one ask talking young people here today?

LIME BIKES!

Lambeth's got them. Southwark. Hackney. Wandsworth.

Why is Croydon being left out?

Croydon Social Cycling has made it to West Sussextoday 🚵‍♀️ @croydoncyclists.bsky.social @londoncycling.bsky.social
Our Sunday Social rides continue - and with the clocks changing, we'll be running a series of weekday evening rides through the summer months as well.

RSVP for lots more of this ⬇️
Social rides are back!

This Sunday we're running an easy 20-miler taking in six parks and commons across South London.

Approx. duration 4h including café stops. Normal clothes, age 16+. Meet 10am, Queen's Gardens, CR0.

Like this post to RSVP. Weather is currently looking "couldn't be better!" 🌞
Our Social Rides run every Sunday, and we'll keep going all through the winter (wellness and weather permitting).

This weekend we'll visit the Dinosaurs in Crystal Palace, head over the brow of the hill down to Dulwich, and back home on the Waterlink Way.

Easy pace - all abilities - wrap up warm!
Next Wednesday, 20th November

Croydon Cyclists - meet 7pm-7:30pm, downstairs @ the Spread Eagle.

We'll join the wider Green Networking & Social upstairs from 7:30pm.
Croydon's falling far behind the pace here.

Our Social Rides often use the Colliers Wood to Merton route - it's a good example of how to do a low-intervention, low-traffic route in outer London.

Would be fairly straightforward to build similar routes here, if there were any political support.

London’s Cycleways network reached a key milestone this week, as the expansion of eight Cycleways across the capital means the total network is now more than 400km in length.

In south London, #Wandsworth Council is proposing a network of "quiet cycle routes" (aka cheap, with minimal interventions on back streets).
See wandsworthquietroutes.commonplace.is
Consultation ends 22 Sept'24.

New on the Bike Blog: Andrew Gilligan, who advised Boris Johnson on transport in No 10, explains why the Conservatives need to get the message that low-traffic neighbourhoods and 20mph zones are actually popular.

Labour is right about LTNs – the Tories need to learn the same lesson
For all the initial noise against low-traffic neighbourhoods, most people like them and they can benefit the public purse

Good to see @peterwalker99.bsky.social *is* here. Strangely he wasn't on the list of #Guardian journalists distributed a week or so ago!
No photos from the Social Ride this week, but here's a few from yesterday's Big Ride For Palestine - congrats to all the riders who rode 30 miles from Wandle Park #Croydon to Stepney in E. London, calling for an end to the bloodshed in Gaza.
Tomorrow's Social Ride to Crystal Palace Park and back.

Meet 10am, Queen's Gardens, central Croydon.

Looking like a great day for it. Bring a water bottle - food available from the street food market in CP Park.
