The alternative to gerrymandering is allowing the other side to rule the federal government forever with its gerrymandering (unless SCOTUS bans it, but that won't happen while most eligible voters lean right while the SCOTUS is dominated by the GOP which has the most to gain by gerrymandering).

Election flippers and skippers handed our government to the world's dictators, the Friends of Don. They learn from each other how to subvert democracy.
In 2024 the world had 25 full democracies, 46 flawed ones, 36 hybrid regimes -- and 60 authoritarian governments.

“With no reporters able to ask questions, it seems the Pentagon leadership will continue to rely on slick social media posts, carefully orchestrated short videos and interviews with partisan commentators and podcasters.

No one should think that's good enough.”

My mom moved to Los Angeles in 1936, where she frequently encountered old friends from Iowa. I saw that happen many years later.

I saw this photo of my mom in her 1930 yearbook. I was surprised to learn that Iowans played soccer in the 1920s.

Vice President Agnew had to resign to avoid prosecution for having accepted bags of cash. President Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment.

But now the GOP controls Congress and the DOJ, so anything goes -- for them, but not for a Democrat who initially checked the wrong box on a form.

Broad taxation is the ulitmate form of insurance: spread the risk as widely as possible, so nobody goes bankrupt or suffers needlessly.
Otherwise: you roll the dice, you might pay the ultimate price.

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.
