I've just started here. Looking to connect with fellow Classicists, especially those off the tenure track, cat people, readers, gardeners, and other anxious folk.
I keep thinking about my intro to Roman archeology class in which we had to write an essay on how the building projects of each of the Julio-Claudian emperors reflected their personalities. Then I heave a heavy sigh.

The so-called Aula Regia of the Flavian palace on Rome's Palatine Hill was a showy, monumental complex employed to help a paranoid, bigly insecure monster feel superior to others (sketch by J.C. Golvin)
Go Hoosiers! And Boilermakers I guess.
Solidarity!! Last week, Indiana University fired the director of student media & halted print on the Indiana Daily Student newspaper. Yesterday, Purdue’s student paper printed the banned edition & drove two hours to deliver it. Incredible www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/l...
Purdue student journalists deliver special 'solidarity' newspaper to IU Bloomington campus
The special edition blasted across town features columns from IDS and Exponent editors, alongside QR codes to support both student papers.

Just thinking about how Trump's arch might be decorated makes me shudder.
So I have just learned that Stephen Miller has been living about a mile away from where I grew up in a neighborhood I knew well. Now I feel dirty. Thankfully he's selling.
What text do you recommend for undergraduates reading Homer in Greek?
Is anyone else being triggered by the use of the word "underbabied" today?

How strange to find so many lying, disingenuous, and dishonest people all in one meeting.

nothing like watching a presentation about ed tech tools to radicalize you against them
Who is celebrating National Spinning and Weaving Week? How are you celebrating?
JD Vance oozes more contempt than any vice president in my lifetime. Dick Cheney oozed contempt, but that was nothing compared to Vance.
Don't forget the bronzer. It is already spreading.
I organized my first ever declension flash mob for our Noun-Adjective Agreement Awareness Week celebration. Feeling very satisfied. #naaaw25
I wonder what it would be like to have a representative like this...
MADELEINE DEAN: The president is unhinged. He's unwell

JOHNSON: A lot of folks on your side are too

D: Oh my god, please. That performance in front of the generals?

J: I didn't see it

D: It's so dangerous! Our allies are looking elsewhere. Our enemies are laughing. You have a POTUS who's unwell.
A little poetry for Noun-Adjective Agreement Awareness Week #NAAAW25
Ordinarily you would only know one of the stupidest people in the country, tops, but now it's like you know them all because they are in high government positions and all they know how to do is be on TV. It's very tiring.
I'm a Latin teacher. It was really cool when Agrippa took a boat through the Cloaca Maxima to inspect it when he was second in command to Augustus. If only we could get JD Vance to do the same.
Noun-Adjective Agreement Awareness Week off to a great start with our poster making session. I also sent a bunch of greeting cards to campus dignitaries. #NAAAW25 #truthjusticeandbettergrammar

Taking an AI course that is reinforcing the value of a Classics degree for me. Today's takeaway: we are preparing students for a future where, as AI continues to evolve, creativity, adaptability, and critical thinking skills will be essential. #OsprAI | #UNFAI
We did listen to "the mothers." The question was thoroughly studied and it was determined that vaccines do not cause autism.
Thank you for this important work.
