"I admit that reason is a small and feeble flame, a flickering torch by stumblers carried in the star-less night, - blown and flared by passion's storm, - and yet, it is the only light. Extinguish that, and nought remains."

Robert G. Ingersoll
Imagine how the behavior of law enforcement might change if they were required to carry liability insurance like so many other people in professional roles requiring certification and extensive graduate-level training and continuing education are required to do.
If pilots, surgeons, judges and engineers require certification, the idea that supreme public authority requires none is not egalitarian — it’s just negligent

Every functioning institution already answers the question “who decides?” with “those competent to judge competence”

Democracy is not exempt from the logic it applies everywhere else

Democracy is not the rule of whoever turns up

It is the rule of the people through constrained, qualified intermediaries

Remove the constraints and you don’t get justice

You get the mean, armed and amplified

That’s not technocracy

That’s the minimum condition for democracy not to become a farce

The killing of Alex Pretti by ICE (actually Border Patrol/ICE agents acting under DHS command) isn’t just a tragic use-of-force incident but is structurally enabled, protected and modelled by command-level signals that amount to de facto impunity

She is brazenly perverting the course of justice
Leavitt lies: "Let's be clear about the circumstances which led to that moment on Saturday. This tragedy occurred as a result of a deliberate and hostile resistance by Democrat leaders in Minnesota."

By claiming the killing “occurred as a result of deliberate and hostile resistance by Democratic leaders” she reframes the event as political provocation rather than agent conduct

That is explicit causal redirection

When the executive branch publicly states what caused the killing, it prejudices public understanding, pressures investigators, signals to prosecutors which conclusions are officially “acceptable”

(especially grave when the potential defendants are federal agents acting under executive command)

They didn’t just kill Alex Pretti

They're now scripting his murder, rewriting reality in real time to immunise the killers before anyone can infer the truth

That’s not law enforcement — that’s a political cover-up masquerading as a press briefing

This isn’t a softening of policy

It’s the discovery that even impunity needs public relations

(extrajudicial killing becomes policy the moment responsibility is treated as a staffing issue rather than a crime)

Needless to say that Renee Good and Alex Pretti will go down as heroes here in Minnesota and nationally, their names synonymous with sacrifice and caring for vulnerable neighbors even at the risk of your own life. And hopefully no more innocent lives are lost.

Here’s one easy trick to avoid being labeled Gestapo. Don’t do gestapo cosplay while doing gestapo stuff. Avoiding the Gestapo like actions is like, really important.

I've been sent video from the end of the ICE raid at the Zipps on 32nd and Shea.

It shows protesters -- on the sidewalk, impeding no one -- getting drive-by maced by an ICE agent from a truck as it rolls away down the road.

Hard to see how such tactics are justifiable.

Here's a drive-by pepper spraying of people on a public sidewalk by ICE.
