We have now reached the ‘Brexit could actually kill you’ stage of the sunlit uplands.
"Britain’s most experienced commentator on the law" seems to agree with the Home Secretary that it is "supremely unhelpful" - maybe also contempt of court? - for the Council of Europe’s Irish human rights commissioner to ask the UK to comply with the ECHR. rozenberg.substack.com/p/policing-p...

They are an invisible conspiracy that controls everything! If you do not denounce the ones you know, that probably means you are one of them!
Then there is Kakistotheocracy: government by the worst who think they are God.
This.

This deserves more attention than it has received.

Gove: "we were too anxious as a government to secure those deals in order to show that Brexit was working".

Exactly as so many of us warned at the time, and as the government denied at the time.

Michael Gove has admitted for the first time that the Australia and New Zealand trade deals negotiated by the former Tory government did not protect Britain’s farmers.

Most dangerous form of theocracy = theokakocracy
One of our smartest and best UK-US historians looked at the future after Trump's win.
Mark Mazower has just published an important book on antisemitism, ending in very recent events, very near to home.
He teaches at Columbia University.
How do things look today?

Democratic norms look unusually fragile in the US. Historian Mark Mazower argues that it is an outlier, not a precursor

It's clearer by the day that Columbia making a deal with Trump in July was a catastrophe for higher education as a whole. It gave terrible people a bottomless appetite for extortion. The other eight universities must follow MIT's lead.

The regime gets more deranged every day. A rightwing conspiracy theorist assassinated a Democratic lawmaker - which the attorney general presents as an example of leftwing political violence in order to justify an authoritarian crackdown on the opposition…

We’re in incredibly dangerous territory.

Bondi: "We've been living through a horrific cycle of political violence in this country ... night after night antifa wrecks havoc on the streets of our cities. In Minnesota, a gunman murdered a state lawmaker and her husband."

Soros is as close as the world’s strongmen get to a cross-border demon. Hundreds of human rights groups, investigative journalists, democracy advocates and other disobedient types have received Soros grants. No global philanthropist comes close to Soros’ $32 bn funding of such cases.

“President Trump’s so-called proposed ‘compact’ is nothing short of a hostile takeover of America’s universities. It would impose strict government-mandated definitions of academic terms, erase diversity, & rip control away from campus leaders to install government-mandated conservative ideology.”
