We've created a #StarterPack of #cohousing neighborhoods on BlueSky, both established & in formation. Who else should be on this list? We can include similar groups like #HousingCoops and #ecovillages so long as they share mix of privacy & community, resident leadership ... bsky.app/starter-pack...

another policy tool that IPCC says amplifies power of sufficiency?

cohousing!

'Cohousing strategies provide users a shared space (i.e., for laundry, offices, guest rooms and dining rooms) to complement their private space... while offering social benefits such as limiting loneliness of elderly'

PBS: "many people are finding themselves lonelier than ever. It’s a crisis that is especially prevalent among young adults." Cohousing is structured to create social situations where people can connect and share and be vulnerable together. Meals, work, parties, informal outings. youtu.be/6nzyPnn2eTQ

I love Co housing so much. Having a small tight knit community on your doorstep is just lovely. I know this isn't exclusive to cohousing and some streets or villages manage it, but i've never had this experience before in any place I've lived

Cohousing stuff: I love the opportunity to help and support my neighbours even in small ways, as much as I appreciate the help and support I receive from them.

🌍Espalied trees

We're lucky to have an espalied apple tree along the side of our home. Our cohousing community has a variety of espalied fruit trees to help maximize space and production.🧵

I lived in Duwamish co-housing in West Seattle. By the time I moved in most of the original residents had moved on, but the consensus process and since of community remained.

Building a community is a very different task then building a structure.
National #cohousing week is underway! Join the free #CohoUS national virtual gathering starting shortly on East Coast communities (VT/Mid-Atlantic) plus Research, and different regions/topics every day this week, plus open houses everywhere this weekend. www.cohousing.org/open-house-2...

Where would you start if you had to 'design a community'?

Well hopefully you might find yourself heading down the lines of #cohousing.

The houses are high quality and efficient, the development is car light, and there's an emphasis on sharing.

Cohousing originated in Denmark around the 1970s. There are nearly 200 communal living communities in the U.S. today, including Skagit Commons, a cohousing community for people over the age of 55.

“We have to come together,” she said, “especially with all that's going on right now. I might not be able to control the world out there, but I can have some control of what's happening within my community.”

You've discovered the secret of #cohousing, @jentrification.com: get beyond family to find and make good neighbors through effective participatory design of physical & social structures. You don't have to love all your neighbors, just enuf to get work done. Having the privacy of your own home helps.
i believe in cohousing. but I probably wouldn't do it with family. I need more than just familial bonds to make a community.
Would you live on a family compound?
This is why to live in community: shared space, supportive neighbors make it easy to do good! Congrats to the DC #cohousing neighborhood hosting this in their Common House. What are you doing / will you do in your community space?
We had such a good, positive, inclusive family-friendly service event making 💫205 bags of trail mix💫 for Martha’s Table. A yuuuuuuge Thank You to Takoma Village Cohousing for hosting.
Looking forward to visiting the first #ChicagoLand cohousing neighborhood once it opens.
Last month, Altierra Builders founder and OPC member Jonathan Shack gave local members a tour of our new building, currently in construction. Each day brings more progress and members are scheduled to move in this fall.
