A molded soft-paste porcelain sugar bowl with underglaze blue lambrequin decoration above molded gadroons and a lid with similar lambrequins along the edge and a blue-painted knop.
Saint-Cloud, first quarter of the 18th century. Fairly simple with fine decoration, inspired by a silver form. (ALT)

4 1/2” (11.5 cm) in height, 4 3/8” (11.1 cm) in diameter.

Doyle, New York, Sale 25CN01, Old Master Paintings/Phipps Collection/Silver/English & Continental Furniture, 29 January 2025, lot 497 (part). The cover, well-decorated. With the Saint-Cloud ‘sun’ mark in underglaze blue.

The choice of books in Felix Vallotton’s 'The Bookcase,' (1915) play nicely into the picture's palette: the shelves are filled with the yellow spines of the Bibliothèque Charpentier collection, in a nod to the (then) supposed female preference for thrilling novels.

oh, the thrill of an actual letter, from a friend from film school, with his animator's eye for a flourish - somebody I thought I'd lost contact with when I left Instagram.

(I have used Toby's mouse from Green Knowe to obscure my address, so none of you come round and make pizza or cinnamon rolls)
