People are going to post a ton of incredible comedy bits from Catherine O’Hara — she’s been a legend for decades — but for me the clip I’m sharing is this moment from the doomed Mitch and Mickey romance in A Mighty Wind. She is already terribly missed.

Seeing numerous reports that James Sallis has passed. What a tremendous loss. A novelist with a poet’s tongue, and one of the finest noir writers working today. RIP.

One thing this cortisol spike of a novel does not skimp on is the many ways war can ruin human bodies. Even so, when I came upon the phrase “boots still potted with feet” I shouted “goddamn!” to no one in particular.

This is tremendous news. I’m not sure anyone’s currently better at the short noir novel than @jonathanames.bsky.social.

The last quarter century has been one long experiment in how much we’re willing to tolerate the incremental loss of liberty in the name of supposed security. Proposals like this to turn back the clock deserve serious attention.

I’m a sucker for art that doesn’t shy away from its own unique aesthetic. What a strange and inventive film this is, and all the more heartfelt for it.

Just sent final changes to IN THE DESERT to the bestest publisher in the world @cowboyjamboree.bsky.social & I know we're supposed to be modest & let the critics & readers blow our horns but this book is so good, maybe even great. And I hope lots of people read it and are blown away.

US foreign policy right now really does amount to the jock walking the high school halls, knocking books out of other students’ arms and saying, “What are you gonna do about it, nerd?”

This is so cool.
Scientists just mapped tiny veins across the entire living human brain in under 7 minutes using ultra-high resolution MRI.

Previously this kind of detailed view was mainly built from postmortem (after death) methods.

Here’s what they did and why it matters.

Prime example of this ineptitude: the CECOT segment on “60 Minutes” she delayed allegedly to solicit comments from the White House. It aired last night finally, and the responses from the admin were quite literally things like, “we’re not going to answer your questions, that would be insane.”
