RIP Tom Stoppard. Thank you for giving us one of my favorite examples that bring together two of my loves, games and Shakespeare.

I've spent decades dealing with people in computer science who do well with computers but completely fail at understanding human nature.
BTW the best computer scientists I know usually understand that nature and people are messy and not made of binary values.

So much yes.
Game creators should also go to the theatre more often.
There should be more games inspired by avant-garde stage design.

My friends hate the way I refuse to follow directions and just get to places based on my personal definition of "vibes," so I was delighted to play a game at @nyugamecenter.bsky.social's No Quarter this weekend that was basically just "bike vibes"
Finally, a biking game that embraces vibes

Looking at the news worldwide, it feels like there's people who have decided to create scapegoats for their frustrations, negate obvious facts and what's right in front of them. They've invented an alternate reality that they're dragging the rest of us into. Please get us out of this timeline.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

This applies to a lot of rich powerful people, who clearly cannot understand affection, love or joy, and just try to fill the black hole where their souls should be with infinite money, and it’s never ever going to be enough.

if merely the success of making a profit is not enough for you--if you feel the need to dominate an entire market and generate endless growth--you have a sickness.
A lot of the business failures of the games industry are really rooted in this desire to create a product that dominates the market. The recent Amazon thing really highlights that: they wanted to create a product that outperformed Steam, but they didn't understand Steam or what the audience wanted.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
