So, to some up my thoughts on this before I do my video review later this week, this is in fact a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, it is directed by Renny Harlin. Also there's a new Kristen, a redesigned Freddy, and a dog pissing fire...things went wrong.

CJ's Hot Take (12/8/2025):

Renny Harlin is the proverbial kiss of death for any horror franchise.

I said it.

Working on a new project and I'm trying to find a watchable copy of the 1908 Kalem Film's Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I've checked Youtube, but it appears that the 1913 Universal version is the only one out there that I can locate.

I don't know that anyone wants this or that I have enough "reach" to be worth it, but regardless, if any indie filmmaker wants coverage, feel free to reach out at [email protected].

With the Netflix/WB news, indie filmmaking and distro are going to be more important than ever.

I think we go a little dark, but also with a time capsule. Kids are familiar with Howie Mandel on AGT, but do they know his early work? Daniel Stern outside of Home Alone? Fred Savage outside of The Princess Bride?

I don't know why, but I feel like we need a couple of franchise revisits in the gaming space. Wave Race deserves a new entry and so does Guardian Legend.

@scalzi.com I had no idea that I needed a satirical Dune in my life, but man, your Interdependency novels are filling a void for me right now.

This one is far darker than I remember. I think my memories of it were "lightened" somewhat by the silliness of some of the films that follow. Part 2 still has the meanest Freddy, but 3 might just have the cruelest. At least that's true so far in my franchise rewatch.

#NowWatching A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) d. Chuck Russell. This has always been my favorite of the franchise. Very interested to see if that still holds true.

Today, a newer film that has slowly started to edge out some older holiday classics. And that's not an easy thing to do. I abhor change! But damnit, this is just a good movie.
