These grad students’ candle budget is out of this world!
My first question is “Who are these 45 year old university students?”
Just pressed play on John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness which is technically a rewatch, but I remember absolutely nothing from having seen it on the super channel at 12 years old, so I’m calling it a first time watch.

Looking forward to new weekend service November 23!
Taking the GO Bus/Train combo to Toronto and both the bus to Mount Pleasant was packed and now the train to Union is quite busy.

Between University students heading home and the baseball game there is clearly a demand for weekend train service all the way from Kitchener to Union and back again.
They say having a Green Party MPP means you get nothing from the government, but after a summer of meetings, organizing the public, and pushing the government from MPP Aislinn Clancy in Kitchener the Minister is going to announce weekend GO train service all the way to Kitchener today!
Metrolinx extending weekend GO Trains to Kitchener
GO Transit users in Waterloo Region are finally getting something they’ve wanted for a long time: weekend GO Train trips at the Kitchener station.

I just watched Shivers last night, which was great, but also made me wonder why I wasn’t watching The Brood, which I think is Cronenberg’s best film.

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

Happy #BookshopDay! Why not get some of your holiday shopping done early? Order or pre-order books from your local indie before the busy rush?

Psst: you can include this animated gif in your own Bluesky posts - when searching for a gif, look for [at-sign]debbieohi + keyword (like bookstore)
a blue sign that says shop from your local indie bookshop now
Alt: Shop from your local indie bookshop now so you can shop from them later

The Shining is a masterclass in cinematography. Amazing audio, music, camera angles, colours, it's fantastic. A must-watch every October.
It’s a much better rule than the other way around. That way you always get the treat you want on your birthday.

Happy birthday! Now I understand why you made the butter tarts.
Weekend reading! The final book in my goal to read all of Stephen King’s novels in chronological order.
I guess technically three floors isn’t a high rise - but many people seem to think of these types of low rise mid density building as trash living also.
Proudly living in a vertical slum over here, which also has at least three families living in three of the nine units in this building…. Plus the two other vertical slums in the same complex around me also have families.

Some people really need a paradigm shift.
Great thread about the many topics that came up at tonight's townhall.
Happening now, a town hall featuring Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner at the Victoria Road Recreation Centre. It's his pre-fall session wind up. Stand by.
I'm a day late for the full moon, but if I learned anything from Buffy The Vampire Slayer it's that werewolves turn for a few days before and after the full moon, so I'm still good.

Now watching The Wolf Man (1941)
