Are Stop Signs the Answer to Safer Streets?: https://streets.mn/2025/07/30/stop-signs-answer-to-safer-streets/

They reduce vehicle speeds, create safer streets, and they're cheap and easy to install. Why aren't we installing more stop signs?

😱

Blaisdell has yellow flex posts at intersections!

I am VERY excited about this. Thank you @minneapolismn.gov !

I hope they survive the rest of the summer & can be replaced as needed ongoing. I’ll be curious to see driver behavior w/ these - hopefully decent compliance.

I should also add that @sorenwithward8.bsky.social has a great fundraiser ride also happening July 13 that I strongly encourage folks to join!

Schedules = hard and I couldn't work around this conflict I'm afraid. But for those riding w/ Soren feel free to swing by BSP to say hi afterwards 😀

The ride is still on! Updraft says air quality is likely to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups," so that's a caveat, but happy to ride with those who feel comfortable joining. I also plan to bring masks.

Kid-friendly bike ride this Sunday, June 8, 11:00 am! Lyndale Community School to MLK Park/Kingfield Farmers Market.

**In case of rain/air-quality problems, we'll postpone till July 13** With AQI/rain forecasts ever-changing, keep an eye out for an announcement closer to Sunday!

I know there's city hesitation about where the eastern (new) 1-way terminus might be on 35th b/c of the presence of the school. My mental map makes me think they could pull it off at 3rd Street since the traffic flows WEST (away) from the school...a lot less conflict that way. But we'll see.
chrisvaughan.bsky.social
For sure! We'll all need to push for significant traffic calming throughout the corridor, whatever the final overall designs are!
chrisvaughan.bsky.social
Above all, it seems really hard to me to justify having the multi-lane 1-way drag on and on and on all the way to Chicago, exposing Central N'hood to worst dangers of the 1-way format.

BUT...I am not a planner. Just a huge street design nerd, so I can always be swayed by new info and context :-)
chrisvaughan.bsky.social
I'm a huge proponent of 2-ways instead of multi-lane 1-ways (the data is really bad on multi-lane 1-ways), but in the case of this project the strongest leverage point may be advocating for shortening how long the 2-ways are. My hunch is E. terminus @ 3rd, convert to 2-way.
chrisvaughan.bsky.social
= no room for greenery, stormwater treatment, curb lane, etc. etc.
chrisvaughan.bsky.social
The city's take on model at Housing Comm showed key challenge to 2-way in the (narrowest) 35th St. stretch (b/w Blaisdell & 3rd), which is that the necessity of a center turn lane to handle traffic flow (legit IMO) = 3 lanes which = worse for peds, and 3 lanes + AAA bike facility ...
