At first glance, this #emperorpenguin may appear completely alone, but just a few meters away, a warm colony awaits him. It’s interesting how many people perceive #antarctica as empty and barren, when in reality, it is anything but. It is a place of vivid colors, surprising life, and utter beauty.

Lying on the ice, every passing emperor penguin felt like a tiny solar eclipse. The sky burned orange, like fire on ice—yet the bitter southern wind cut through me, a chilling contrast.

Emperor penguins only lay one egg per year and their very low reproductive rate makes it necessary to really care for their chicks. Hence, they will shield their young even from the strongest storms with wind speeds reaching 200km/h and more. A truly inseparable bond! #antarctica #emperorpenguin

Our route to the edge of the sea ice took us between two towering icebergs, which created a natural "gate" to the ocean. From a distance, we could see emperor penguins traveling the same path. Occasionally, some would stand tall to get a better view of the penguin colony. What a sight!
