When my grandfather died in 2004, I was 11. At his home in Nijmegen I found a battered briefcase, unopened for years. Inside: photos, consular forms and letters — a history of falling empire, colonial decoupling and rising nationalism that marked those who lived it.

Caught Between States as an Empire Dissolved
A Dutch-Indonesian family’s documents from the mid-20th century reveal a painful story of separation and an administrative nightmare that prefigures today’s xenophobic politics

It’s perception of security, prosperity, freedom, etc, is conditioned upon the dispossesion and violence against the Palestinian. In order for their home to be built, another home needs to be destroyed. Which is why there’s no difference between the opposition and current Kahanist regime figures.

It is evidence that the violence of the Israeli occupation cannot be blamed on one man such as Netanyahu. Doing so would make Ariel Sharon likely laugh while rotting in Hell. It is the regime, with it’s Zionist foundation, which is inherently exclusionary and racist, that is the core problem.

Another was an MDT David passing by a mosque in Nablus city to which the occupation forces would burst out firing to, resulting in civilian casualties, during a raid as they claimed to be targeting one Palestinian fighter. The media, at the time, already reported that as the deadliest year.

One man and his family in Jenin refugee camp, I remember clearly, how his house was occupied and used as a military base. He would be tied together with his hands and legs while having been shoved a tennis ball in his mouth only to lay in a room for days until the soldiers left.

I remember covering military raids in the occupied West Bank under the Bennett-Lapid coalition, with Benny Gantz as DefMin, in places like Jenin and Nablus. These were brutal and at many times included pressure cooker procedures as the amount of martyrs would pile up.

Wrote about the temptation to put Gaza on the back burner now that the ceasefire is solidifying—and why we can't let that happen. Gaza still needs you, and me, and everyone to fight until real Palestinian liberation is won. www.discourseblog.com/p/gaza-still...

Al Jazeera asked former Israeli minister, Yossi Beilin, what he thought Trump will say in his speech. Beilin responded: “I never know.” Which is the right answer given the US president’s unpredictability.

If you've never been to Gaza, you won't appreciate what the yellow line means. Basically Israel now holds most of Gaza's small but important agricultural land. Continued Israeli occupation, which I judge the likely outcome, makes Gaza even more unliveable and more dependent on outside goods.

As others have prev said, many are relieved to see a brim of light shine through the darkness and hope that this will now lead to a concrete resolution rather then a ceasefire among many ceasefires. However, caution and skepticism remain as long as there are enough uncertainties.
President Trump keeps insisting over and over that "the war is over."

But people l've been speaking to in Israel's security establishment are skeptical that the second phase of the deal will ever be completed.

The remaining issues are too thorny and the distrust too deep.

🚨Eyal Weizman from @forensicarchi.bsky.social: “this aerial image from the 1960s shows that the 'yellow line' of 🇮🇱 redeployment in Gaza is roughly matching with the border of the area's coastal sand dune, leaving Gaza without the majority of its agricultural areas on the fertile soils in the east”.
