Deep dive into the surge in US pedestrian deaths:

"It’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles; it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die."

"[That] seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in ped deaths."
Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?
It’s unfortunately not uncommon for pedestrians to be killed by cars in the US.

Nice challenges here, especially for those advocating agroecology solutions. Need to consider the time for transitions needed and adressing demand side (recognising the role of how food and pharma businesses has changed what we eat dramatically via marketing).

I enjoyed this @tabledebates.bsky.social podcast on how and why fossil fuels became so central to food systems, from production to distribution to cooking. But in terms of what comes next, I think it suffers from what I like to call the limits of "agroecological solutionism." A thread... 1/

You might have heard of 'dark kitchens' when a row of sheds in a car park churn out food for Deliveroo. They're unpopular and low margin. So the next big thing in London food is 'host kitchens' where local pubs, restaurants and kebab shops cook for big brands. www.londoncentric.media/p/host-kitch...
Why your next upmarket Deliveroo might be made by your local kebab shop

The Reform UK threat is real. The voting system will help them - "fragmentation has only accelerated since, creating a chaotic political environment where small shifts in the level and distribution of parties’ support can have a massive impact on the outcome." www.politicshome.com/opinion/arti...

We may find that solar panels are still working well after half a century. Could this have implications on the future of financing?

"A study of six, three-decade-old arrays in Switzerland found them to still be working well, retaining more than 80% of their initial power."
Groundbreaking study shows how solar panels age after 30 years of use: 'It's an important message to the photovoltaic industry'
"Everything that goes into a panel ... has a great influence on performance."

In @theguardian.com - drop in support for digital ID since summer & govt announcement. From 54-18 support to 31-45 opposed, a real shift: suggests govt didnt get comms on use right, opponents did; but also risk govt unpopularity means they have reverse Midas right now
