I am becoming convinced that autonomous vehicles are designed to solve the problem of "I live in a wealthy suburb but have a horrible car commute and don't want to drive anymore but also hate trains and buses and refuse to ride a bike."
The reason for this is that the MEng offered a short program to gain experience towards PEng. However, now they would be unlikely to get to stay to work, so they aren’t coming.
Not sure if it varies by department, but my department says it still has excess allocation of PALs, so we have not hit any limit there. Students with offers are getting more scrutiny and more are denied. Our MEng program has disappeared due to lack of demand not due to lack of capacity.
My understanding is that universities still have capacity to bring in international students, but the demand has evaporated. (Colleges are a different story). This seems to be because there is no longer a reasonable pathway to be able to stay and work in Canada after graduation.
I mean… Ontario universities are in complete financial chaos due in large part to the inept provincial government. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to come here if their role involves teaching in any way. Workload has exploded.
My 4-year-old just started a sentence with “Dad, I know how you like wine in a bag…” 🙃
Good thing it wasn’t a modern truck. Those high front ends would have killed her.
(If it’s me, avenge my death appropriately)
Someone is doing to die after being hit by a driver of a vehicle at a location that used to have a speed camera. This will be on you, Doug.
If you go to Canadian Tire with your bags from another store, they usually insist on you leaving them at customer service. So it is kind of is illicit there. One time they made me leave a loaf of bread with them.
Speed bumps are trash. Larger vehicles (you know, the most dangerous ones) can simply ride over them at speed. Terrible solution.

I think my “junk mail” filter is broken since all of my most urgent and important emails are going there…
It’s a lot more motivating to choose another option when there is a tangible avoidance of cost. Not dissimilar to those people who claim they don’t go downtown due to a lack of (free) parking.
I would agree. In essence, a parking pass is providing a discount on the daily rate in exchange for guaranteed parking revenue. It’s designed to increase parking utilization which is the exact opposite effect than what is desired.
The parking cost model also encourages driving. The daily rate is so high that you will almost always buy a pass if you ever want to drive. Then, when you have the pass, you tend to use it. I’ve been asking for (not for me) flex passes with a fixed number of days.
Agreed. I think it would be cool if an incentive not to drive was offered. Sometimes that lands better than increasing cost and inconvenience of driving. For example, some free bus rides if you walk/cycle to cover bad weather days!
Respect. I think we’ve all posted something that didn’t quite land right. I certainly have.
I’m worried also about people coming down Sarnia looking to shortcut the intersection on western road, even if they aren’t parking or staying on campus.
It’s a lot more cars on Brescia Lane which is (according to Strava) one of the busiest cycle routes in London. Considering the new Springett outlet has already substantially increased traffic I am not optimistic about another cut through.
Ok. Sorry if I missed the context of your comment. It’s online where sometimes tone is not understood. Have a great day.
If drivers had to directly pay the full cost of driving, I believe 90% of people would never or rarely drive again.
In case the Premier of a major province requires a refresher on why going “10 over” is actually a big deal.
