How do you compare apples to pumpkins? Use percentiles within fruit type! Here is the good apple that has a 75th percentile for its size with other apples and the bad pumpkin that has a 10th percentile for its size with other pumpkins.

There is a small chance that the Department of Statistics can be saved. If you are an alum or friend of the dept., please let university administrators know why statistics is essential to a research university, especially one that wants to get back into @aacu.org (AAU). 2/6

There is definitely "no place like Nebraska": U. of Nebraska-Lincoln (@unlincoln.bsky.social) is recommending the elimination of my Dept. of Statistics along with 5 other departments and other cuts. These recommendations include laying off 50+ tenured faculty--no other university does this. 1/
