Sqeezing in just on the crack of midnight with my 2023 year in review! I actually had enough stuff this year to split items across art and crafts.

Thank you everyone for your support! Here's to another great year of creating.

Art Recap - Alethea Lim 2023. 12 watercolour artworks denoted with months. Included are three Splatoon inspired pieces, six Pokemon pieces, Drageux from Ring Fit Adventure, a Stray Gods inspired piece and a Kakapo from the Avian August challenge.

Craft Recap - Alethea Lim 2023. 12 craft projects, mostly laser-cut things with some electronics and sewing projects mixed in. The top left shows a prototype of an Ocarina of Time inspired piece. There are a couple of rhythm game inspired pieces, paraglider earrings from Tears of the Kingdom, a tamagotchi-like device with the Smallfry from Splatoon, Pokemon fabric dice bags, Geese earrings, a Pokéball light panel, sushi themed trinkets, a keyboard, Patapon pins and Jirachi earrings.

Success! All the prototyping worked out, now to do the boring parts like track down better colour matches and dial in laser settings so the middle of the sash doesn’t cut through.

I used heat from a candle to seal the edges of the synthetic ribbon which had the side-effect of making it a bit more rigid along the edge. It’s very hard to control the heat though… might try experimenting with my soldering iron next.

I ran a sidekick themed stamp rally at Adelaide Artcade! It was such a pleasure to work alongside so many cool artists and I love how everyone found their own way to celebrate their chosen sidekick(s)!

A stamp card with spots for each of the tabling artists to place a stamp next to an unfinished friendship charm. Below the stamp card, a map shows where to find all the artists.

Urgh I am so bad at lineart. I've been avoiding it lately by doing my linework in Illustrator so I can control the curves and line weights. But I wish I could get better at freehanding with my tablet 😭

I've not really been feeling motivation to draw fanart of any new media for a while, so it's an odd coincidence that the two series that are close to breaking through that barrier are both ones which have supernatural agents taking on missions to meddle in the lives of ordinary people.
