I've just posted a monster of a blog post on something I feel very passionately about: learning to read like a writer, so that every book on your shelf can be an education.

This is Part 2, where I demonstrate how I would analyze the first chapters of five novels.

@alexhaybooks.bsky.social so here's a nice thing for a Thursday. Last year when The Housekeepers came out Alex swung past the shop and signed some books. He was lovely, 1 of the customers he met that day thought so too. She came back today, all she could remember was how nice the author was

Someone else mentioned the floor too! The house does actually have a glass-covered portion of the old stairs available see so I guess they knew people would like to see it for more than 'just' Austen.
A brief look at Jane Austen's final home on College Street Winchester. As far as I know, there are still tour spots available #booksky
Not sure what's happened to the subs... if you need them, this clip is also on my Instagram and TikTok.
Today on the podcast I'm talking to Samantha Sotto Yambao about Water Moon. Was I incredibly excited that she's got a book out in the UK? Yes, I was. Very! #booksky

What's THE LISTENERS about? As a reader, I know that I don't really care what topic my favorite writers tackle—whatever the book seems to be about, it's really just an excuse for getting under the hood of my emotions and messing around. That's the kind of writer I'd like to be, too.
