A bit about me: I'm a music educator in Alberta. Been doing that for over a decade. I also conduct in a community organization, I'm a tech enthusiast, and I like to know what's going on. I am very much anti-UCP, CPC, GOP, etc.

And I'm pleased to see familiar folks on here already!
Danielle Smith wants an education commission. Another panel. More UCP buddies at the table to help defend funding for private and charter schools while saying that everything should stay status quo in public schools.

Stop the excuses. Fund our students properly.

Of all the provinces in Canada, Alberta should have been the first province to establish a class size guarantee given its apparent prosperity. And yet, we don't have one.

Imagine, an actual Alberta advantage like that.

The UCP doesn't want that.

Not a surprise that the UCP is TWO YEARS late on negotiating a teachers contract. This contract, if ratified, would already be into year 3 of a 4 year contract.

They let official business slide years behind while handing money to their friends in an expedited manner.

From the DM’s…

Danielle Smith yesterday - “Look, I can tell you that the fun of license plates doesn’t distract me from work! I can walk & chew gum at the same time!”

Also Smith - “Chewing gum is really hard!”

(The latest on the PC name legal battle)

In the end what the UCP needs to understand is that maintaining stuff like education is expensive. You can't just choose to not pay the bills because you don't like them otherwise the repair bill down the line is astronomical.

Upkeep is critical and important.

I have a citizen suggestion for an Alberta license plate design and slogan.

Modern day Republicans are absolutely vile people who want the entire playing field to themselves. They don't ever want a filter while they muzzle everyone else around them.

They are so thin-skinned that the only way they'll be happy is if they have complete control over everything ever.
Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.
Also, technically I'm without a contract and I'm getting no pay. No way am I talking about work under those conditions.

But I think it was a reaction to what I did a couple days ago and so-and-so going into a panic.

Good. Let it sit and let it stew for a while.
Yeah we're in this for the long haul it seems.

If I were to guess: Back-to-work order and work to rule until binding arbitration determines the contract. Sad but this is where it's likely going.

Education is just a babysitting service to the UCP.

From the DM’s…

Not looking like there’s going to be a quick end to the teachers strike…

I'd much rather a bank ask me why I want to cut a $150K cheque so I could say some shit like "I'm putting a down payment on a house."

This line of questioning exists to help curb laundering, scams, and other illegal activities. I'm fine with banks asking these questions.
I can see why Reform would oppose measures to prevent money laundering. Maybe banks should check money going *into* bank accounts - particularly when it's Russian money going into Reform politicians' bank accounts...
A trustee candidate that can't spell the word "relevant" and exercises poor grammar throughout this document.

And we're supposed to believe that education has been appropriately funded?

Wow.

Oh that's awesome. I'm two degrees of separation from Scott Manley! Hullo!

That's really cool.
This is based on zero inside knowledge. It's just one of those gut instinct predictions.
Bold prediction: I'm predicting that the Alberta teachers strike will be resolved by October 23. The UCP will be in a major panic to turn the page before the Legislature convenes and I wouldn't be surprised if they table a more acceptable deal as a result.
There is also no chance - zero chance that what happened was coincidence. After I connected the dots I successfully eliminated all other options except for the one I think.

After eliminating the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Time for some truth telling.
Honestly, the conversation I'm hoping to precipitate by taking the action I took isn't going to be a pleasant one because I know both sides aren't too keen but it is a necessary one.

I know that something was done back in March that I didn't know about. Things would be different if I had known.
I can’t force it but I will apply a catalyst to the situation with the outcome of a conversation.

The silence has to be broken and I think I needed to shake the branches to make that happen. T-1.5 weeks or thereabouts.

I know I’m right in what I believe.
There. I want a full-on panic.
Cards on the table, let’s go.
Republicans don't need one single Democrat vote to get the government re-opened. It's not a law that the Senate needs 60 votes to re-open the government. The Republicans could reduce that requirement to 51 right now if they wanted, it's just a simple Senate rule change.

Not one D vote needed. 🤷‍♂️
I quite enjoy how the Nespresso boxes open. Very easy. Also, some of those Canadian-style blends seem neat. Excited to try them out when I get back to work, whenever that is.

UCP, let's get that deal done.

Nothing. Not one single thing. Absolutely nil.
So that has to be that. What a cluster**** of a situation.

But I WILL do some trolling because I do know that my workspace was checked out about a month and a half ago. I won't say how I know but I do know.
So, just for the record (I won't get into details) but the entirety of the last five months could have been avoided had I just have been told "Hey so I decided to..."

I mean, the ENTIRETY of the last five months could have been totally different than what it was.

Holy F. One little sentence.
So I managed to figure something out beyond any doubt the other day and the fact that nothing was done about it for months is what's getting me quite annoyed.
Also UCP: "Oh and this is the pale of cash we have available for a contract. Teachers need to be flexible."

Also UCP: "We're also not going to add to the pale so what you see is what you get."

Flexibility for thee but not for me is a UCP core value.

UCP a week ago: "We want to avoid a strike and want the teachers to come back to the bargaining table to negotiate a deal."

UCP present day: "...But not until October 14 because we want to fit in our last minute vacays on your dime first."

Priorities, yo.
