The Anglican tradition, as I have received it: "the absolute priority of the Bible, a catholic loyalty to the sacraments, and a habit of cultural sensitivity and intellectual flexibility." ⚓

Jesus did not come to teach the teachable; He did not come to improve the improvable; He did not come to reform the reformable. None of those things works. Jesus came to raise the dead.

Remembering the Oxford Martyrs, Thomas Cranmer in particular. The hand that offended, is the same hand that prepared the Great Litany, the first English language rite for the Book of Common Prayer. I invite you to join me, in good Anglican fashion, to pray the Litany on Friday ⚓
I wouldn't take on the mantle of the Anglican Communion lightly. Seems rather costly. ⚓
Keep us, O Lord, constant in faith and zealous in witness, that, like thy servants Hugh Latimer, Nicholas Ridley, and Thomas Cranmer we may live in thy fear, die in thy favor, and rest in thy peace; for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord...⚓

Remembering the Oxford Martyrs, burnt at the stake 16 October 1555: "Be of good cheer, Master Ridley, and play the man, for we shall this day light such a candle in England as I trust by God's grace shall never be put out". ⚓

Commemoration of Latimer, Ridley, and Cranmer, and 19th anniversary of my ordination to the diaconate in the Cathedral Church of St. James, South Bend (at which service, given my name, we prayed for all the victims of the English Reformation).
From the Prayer Book Society of Canada. ⚓
Canada's first "Thanksgiving" in 1578, celebrated by the Frobisher expedition's Chaplain Robert Wolfall, "making unto them a godly sermon, exhorting them especially to be thankefull to God for theyr strange and miraculous deliverance in those so dangerous places” ⚓
Very neighbourly.

These American turkeys just walked down our street.

Good timing for our Canadian Thanksgiving. 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
Messiah's preachers between now and Pentecost are the Rev. Marc Landeweer, Joey Goodall, Jen Asp, and the Rev. Dave Langille. Messiah will hear from Jen Asp today. Our worship services: 8:30am and 11:00am, which is also livestreamed: youtube.com/watch?v=4WhH.... ⚓️
Lord, in your mercy ⚓️
A young man stopped me after attending his first AA Meeting here at Messiah, asking if I hear confession. Raised in the Church, he's lived in the far off country squandering all he had. He wanted to turn back to Jesus. As a priest, I am thankful for our Prayer Book liturgy ⚓️

"We have turned the holy Scriptures into all languages, and they will scarce allow them to be extant in any tongue. We invite the people to read and hear the word of God; they drive them away from it. We desire the cause in controversy should be understood by all ; but they fly from judgment.
From the Prayer Book Society of Canada: Today in the calendar we remember William Tyndale, Translator of the Scriptures into English and Martyr. We especially remember in prayer those ministries that bear his name ⚓
Reveal to us your saving word, O God, that like your servant William Tyndale we might hear its call to repentance and new life. Plant in our hearts that same consuming passion to bring the scriptures to all people in their native tongue, and the strength to endure amidst all obstacles...⚓
Local NFL team played in London, game began at 8:30am local time. Can't say enough how much I dislike the NFL, aka the National Extortion League--just ask St. Louis or San Diego--competes against Church worship services! Just calling this idol out for what it is. For this and other hot takes...⚓
Something called BAM! (sic) Millions of Books in Bloomington.
Funny, pretty sure Pizza Ranch owns the Upper Midwest.
New bookstore in town, found the Anglicanism section ⚓
Monthly reminder, be the tree ⚓️
Word on the street, we should hear in the next week or two.

More angels. Ready for action. 🕯
Blessed Michaelmas: THERE was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil. ⚓️
