Archbishop of York
@archbishopofyork.org
The 98th Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell. Serving the Diocese of York and the dioceses of the Northern Province of the Church of England.
My chosen book for Advent considers the Magnificat. Mary recognised that the incarnation was good news for the downtrodden and powerless. The angel’s message changed Mary’s life, and her song changed the world.

A joy to watch the Advent Wreath being raised at York Minster today. It reminds us of the joy of Christ’s birth and his promised return. Thanks to the team of volunteer Flower Arrangers, whose skill and devotion each year creates this remarkable centrepiece.

“His kingdom is not of this world.” (John 18:36)

On this Feast of Christ the King, we are reminded that true kingship is found not in domination, but in service. May we live as citizens of Christ’s kingdom — where love conquers fear and grace overcomes sin.
