First post here on Blue Sky. I’m a US based artist. I’ve been a linocut printmaker for the last seven years. I also enjoy monoprinting with gelli plates, mixed media collage, and painting. Inspired by my cats, my work mainly focuses on the feline form. Black cats in particular. 🐈‍⬛

The author of this 16thc text, Pietro Andrea Mattioli, not only invented many new tools for distillation but also has the enviable accolade of being the first to diagnose a case of cat allergy when contact with cats made his patient react with ‘agitation, sweating and pallor’

This is one of my favorites in my collection - smooshing babbys back around 1910. The back identifies the woman as Fay and the cats are Smut and Spot (remember ‘smut’ can mean dirt or soot, not just obscene material).

The cat is not frightened but clearly a little annoyed and trying to escape her grasp. Next to the cat on the right is another, nearly identical cat that looks perturbed by the commotion. They seem to be outdoors, perhaps on a porch.
