Félix Vallotton's stunning 1896 woodcut, La Paresse (Laziness), perfectly embodies the art of doing absolutely nothing. Doesn't this make you want to curl up with this heat?

First post here on Blue Sky. I’m a US based artist. I’ve been a linocut printmaker for the last seven years. I also enjoy monoprinting with gelli plates, mixed media collage, and painting. Inspired by my cats, my work mainly focuses on the feline form. Black cats in particular. 🐈‍⬛

The author of this 16thc text, Pietro Andrea Mattioli, not only invented many new tools for distillation but also has the enviable accolade of being the first to diagnose a case of cat allergy when contact with cats made his patient react with ‘agitation, sweating and pallor’

Possibly one of the more accurate 17thc medical texts for this #caturday gives this great description: ‘There is no doore so close… where a Cat… will not find entrance’
So lovely! When are they dated?

This is one of my favorites in my collection - smooshing babbys back around 1910. The back identifies the woman as Fay and the cats are Smut and Spot (remember ‘smut’ can mean dirt or soot, not just obscene material).

It’s #Caturday, and we’ve dug up some purr-plexing cat plates from our collection! From curious kitties snoozing in bowls to ambitious fishing attempts, these plates prove that cats have always been the muse for some… unique art choices. 😹
Happy #caturday! Our feline curator Bebina is hard at work studying Byzantine cat art in A History of Art in 21 Cats by Nia Gould

This is the only postcard in my collection with drama on the back.
Here it is. The back says "You would not let me support you - it’s your own fault - not mine.”
It all began with a black cat... Stay curious — this is just the first paw step!
