I still have minor anxiety going outside and hearing all the geckos clicking after learning about Filipino mythology for my Mangayaw game

An amazing resource and a direct reason I decided to start a version of this for Liminal Horror.

Designing this Cheese Dungeon for #mörktober is giving me something to hyperfixate on which is nice.

In the book The Black Cauldron, there is a great class of monster called the Huntsmen of Annuvin. When one died, his power flowed into the rest of them. The fewer there were, the harder they were to kill. Very gameable enemy.

Similar enemies in One for the Morning Glory. I did a version of them in Pathfinder in my first campaign and then included a different version in A Tomb of Twins.

Bookkeeping can be a bit tricky for it, but they’re fun to run.

Frankly, it’s some bullshit that ἰχώρ would end up with a long I in English. The Greek word is pronounced with a short I. So, if anyone corrects you, you can tell them you’re using the Greek pronunciation. Maybe just ignore that the omega gives it a long O sound at the end 😛

To avoid any confusion, I can confirm that the Dracula in Hotel Dracula is a Confirmed Dracula, same one Stoker wrote about.

They won’t ever do it I’m sure, but Kelsey Dionne would crush it

Marker drawing of Beaker the muppet. He’s like a tube with long hair sticking straight up off the top, big round eyes, a big round nose, and a mouth like an upside-down letter U. In this drawing he has pointy teeth and is covered in blood.

I think they would honestly make a killing on a refresh of the 5.5E Basic Rules to simplify it down to something closer to B/X but still compatible with the modern rules for monsters, etc… people play it because it’s “the thing” but I think a lot of people would prefer a simpler game

To celebrate the jam launching we put out a newsletter that goes into HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN MONSTERS for Liminal Horror.

You can read it for free here (and you can sign up for the free membership on the patreon to subscribe to the newsletter)

I know there are others, and I feel like this was a coming game dynamic when I was a kid, but I’m failing to think of them now.

Scrabble, in which you can challenge if another player’s word is valid, but at risk of losing something yourself.

Uno, in which you can gain by calling out someone forgetting to say “Uno!” when they have one card.
catshavenolord.itch.io
Examples:

Monopoly, in which you can avoid paying rent if the next player’s turn starts after you’ve landed on another player’s property and they didn’t notice to demand their rent from you.

I’m thinking of a quite a few games that have explicit rules for dealing with when another player forgets something or does something wrong that either penalize them or benefit you, and it encourages “gotcha” play, which people will either love or hate, and will be opinionated about.

I didn’t have anything to contribute to the other discussion, but I do have some thoughts on this aspect of it. I think we (as millennials and older) are primed in a lot of ways by the games that were common in our childhood to have strong moral opinions about this type of thing.

Paging @ktrey.bsky.social, this seems like something you’d have some tables for, but I couldn’t find quite the right one poking around your blog archive

Okay, this worked really well last time! I need someone from Brazil who knows about the RPG scene (specifically Vampire/White Wolf) in the early 2000s. Anybody here who could answer a couple quick questions?
