My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

Thought we had planned this perfectly - morning survey from the balcony at this gorgeous farm stay but unfortunately 99% of the square is on the other side of that hill!
Oh well 2 wedgies on the way in is a great sign for tomorrow!

Just reposting this which I think is the most gorgeous thing I have seen in my career - a critically endangered orange-bellied parrot feeding on a carpet of daisies after an ecological burn. This was the first time they’d had the chance to feed naturally in 15y and was wonderful to witness

As a mammalogist I'm fascinated by 💩 because it can help us to answer important questions, like who eats more livestock, dingoes or foxes, and how many threatened or near-threatened species are eaten by cats and foxes?

New paper, by PhD student Rachel Mason theconversation.com/farmers-fear...
Farmers fear dingoes are eating their livestock – but predator poo tells an unexpected story
Despite public perceptions, sheep and cattle are not a favoured prey for some dingoes or foxes. So is culling them to protect livestock justified?

Chat GPT tells me -
If an echidna were casting a vote in the 2025 Australian election—motivated by instincts to protect its habitat, ensure clean air and water, and avoid human-caused extinction—it would most likely lean toward the Greens.

Make good choices today Australia! #auspol
Has anyone asked the echidnas their views on this election? 🎤

Turns out that flying London > Darwin + bus/ferry > Hobart, instead of flying all the way to Hobart, saves about 330 kg CO2 (including radiative forcing: the extra impact of emissions high in the atmosphere).
Is 330 kg a lot? It’s 11% of the trip; also 9% of Sweden’s 2022 per capita emissions 😳

Tasmania - when the government says it cannot afford to fix the housing crisis or protect our environment, just remind them they are paying $47,534 a week to park a ship in Edinburgh because the port here won't be built till 2027.
