The Central Library now has a battery recycling container, courtesy of Metro Waste Authority! Safely dispose of household batteries, power tool batteries, and rechargeable electronics like laptops, tablets, and cell phones. It's in the Central Library gateway whenever we're open.

Wait, you’re telling me I hit the wrong button after beating Grand Mother Silk and I didn’t unlock Act 3? So I have to beat her again? 🫥

Welcome to day two of a semi-regular eye twitch. Please, no advice. Just tots and pears.

Just finished Lavender House by Lev AC Rosen! It was a cute, queer whodunit that made me laugh and cry. It was a pretty easy read, with a set of compelling characters embracing found family. @desmoineslibrary.bsky.social

The spookiest thing about today so far was being able to bus to the DOT to renew my ID, early vote AND bus back to work in 90 minutes.

I don't see a lot of people talking about this, so I want to highlight something GOOD

Billie Eilish stood in a room full of billionaires and said "you're billionaires... Why?"

She donated 11.5 MILLION DOLLARS to food equity and climate orgs, which Stephen Colbert announced to said billionaires.

Wait, I finished my read at home book and my read on the bus book basically at the same time. This has never happened before.

Does anyone else read different books for different settings?

A haven’t taken a “backpack” selfie in a while. Glad I looked presentable for what I thought was a community focused event. Turns out it was geared towards donors and oh did I stick out think a sore thumb.

Reminder that you don’t have to screenshot and repost AI generated slop. By doing that you’re actually proving it has value, especially on social media where views and clicks seem more important than the actual content.

Ignore that shit and move on with your day.

I literally met someone earlier today with a swastika tattoo on the back of their hand. 😳 I’m somehow not suprised, while also being shocked.

This was such a fun event last year, supporting our local indie booksellers AND public library. 📚
The cat's out of the bag! The Grown-Up Book Fair is coming back to Central Library for a special holiday edition event on Saturday, December 6 from 12-4 PM.

Get your holiday shopping done, support local businesses, all while giving back to the library. It's a win for everyone. buff.ly/e3IUhne

My stepson and I both played Hollow Knight, and have been enjoying Silksong. For my birthday yesterday, he designed and assembled a diorama of a scene from the game. 🥹

This is a great reminder! I will say some pantries have restrictions on number of visits and even residency requirements. If your community has a community fridge those are great no barrier options. 🫶🏼
With SNAP and WIC on the cusp of being cut off due to the government shutdown, now is as good a time as any to look up a prominent food bank in your city and set up a one-time or recurring donation if you’re able. Over 40MM of our neighbors may be cut off from food assistance within weeks.

I don’t go by Cat as a nickname, but for some reason I’ve allowed this one guy to call me Cat. I interact with him one time a year and it seems like too much work to correct him. #randomthought

A beautiful day for a run. A breezy start which was perfect to get going. I finished just 38 seconds over my 2023 half marathon time before my calf injury. Happy with the finish!
