I often say that for people like me every week is independent venue week: over 200 gigs last year, probably two thirds in indie places. I love them. I support them. I do however despair that that support is still not mutual. By which I mean: VENUES! PUBLISH YOUR FUCKING STAGE TIMES IN ADVANCE!

We Are The Physics were great, saw them a couple of times in Manchester c/o the "algorithm" I used then and indeed to this day: the name appeared on the listing of a trusted local promoter and I thought "that looks interesting".

They absolutely did not fail. They played gigs people like me enjoyed.

Post yourself from a different era: me and my dad, 1975
A man with incredible 1970s hair playing a red guitar and a three year old child in dark purple dungarees copying him on a ukulele.

It amused me at the time that the close proximity of the Pixies and Marychain gigs meant we heard Head On twice in quick succession by different artists. Though later that year Half Man Half Biscuit covered Freakscene the same weekend we saw Dinosaur Jr, so had that twice in three days 🙂

A few weeks ago we went to see young Manchester musician Ellen Beth Abdi, who alongside T-shirts and tapes was selling her own made marmalade (it's genuinely fantastic too). Off to see Mr F on Monday and may well be tempted by this... Any musicians out there doing bread? Complete my breakfast! 😄

I got the link but kept hanging, the O2 one came up first

Me: why should people get priority tickets for gigs just because of what phone network they're on for random long lost historic reasons?

Also me: fuck yeah Kraftwerk tickets in the bag, and relax 🙂

That'll be my Friday night viewing sorted then 😄

In other news, I've found all the Trumptonshire trilogy is on ITVX.

Is that Rockaway date of Sat 3rd definite? Got tickets as usual but may not be able to do the whole weekend this year and Whitelands literally my #1 priority so keen to find out (festival doesn't publish splits til nearer the time) cheers

My 2004:
1. The Fall Of Math
(large void)
2. dunno, probably other things, including some of those, but... yeah. A CD I bought with no prior knowledge because it looked interesting, and I put it on and it was exactly the music I didn't even know I needed but blew me away...

Thanks for posting a picture which may help younger viewers (if we indeed have any, which I doubt) understand what my post on this thread is actually on about 😄😄😄

Oof, a tough one which calls for some sideways thinking. You are of course familiar with James Islip and Andy Abbott, FKA That Fucking Tank, now Lands And Body - so named because of what happened when you tried to type "James and Andy" on a 90s Nokia mobile 😄 andyabbott.bandcamp.com/album/dark-m...

Prior to the unpredictable weirdness that is 2025 I might have said The Loft or The Man From Delmonte, but... 🙂 so I'm going to swerve away from the 80s into the mid 2000s, Barnsley, and yes, some of them went on to be Exit Calm and Rob's had some success as Humanist, here he was when he was young 🖤

There's actually... lots of stuff I like ??????

I actually don't know how to process not being slightly underwhelmed by the lineup announcement, it's been a while (always enjoyed it when we actually got there obviously)

Looks like one of those shit companies that do off-the-shelf training packages for workplaces on shit like quality systems and auditing. From 1997. (I remember one that came to our place, logo was three interlocked gear wheels. Yes, three. Wouldn't turn. Possibly not the metaphor they intended).

Haha, yes, that would have been my second choice. Extra points to anyone who can think of a third l... I can't, although Suede's "The Insatiable One" actually covers today's and yesterday's words in one line 😄

Way too easy that one (title as used by me for several blogs and even my MySpace page back in the early days of the internet)

Sent this to my fellow union rep at work today, he's a music fan (jazz) and listens to podcasts (mostly lefty comedy) but doesn't do any social media, he was horrified. He's going to switch now, but it really brought home to me how most people, even those who would care, have no idea how bad it is.

In fact the Greenock lot (I work in the Oldham factory but I do a lot of collaboration with our Scottish colleagues) will probably piss themselves if I tell I'm going to Paisley for a night out!
cathaubergine.bsky.social
Very fortunate that with some exceptions I can choose my own days off. Colleagues are always bewildered by where I say I'm going but at least Mogwai are famous enough for some of them to have actually heard of them...

Looking forward to my first ever gig in - or indeed visit to - Paisley, and a long overdue return to Aberdeen. As well as Manchester of course, but I can walk to the Apollo in 20 minutes from home so needed a bit more of a challenge 🙂
