Yup. I would like mods to be a bit more willing to make bold and exciting claims for its value, though. I’m sure a decent working definition which pushes back against nostalgia is possible! So much of great culture is inherently “mod” and there for the taking.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I was a frustrated would-be mod when I was younger! I love the concept but am often put off by the execution. Piller’s book paints the movement as hugely conservative and can’t even have a stab at defining “mod”. Modernism does mean something & he claims it doesn’t. Odd.
