Economic development professional, charity trustee, Shrewsbury (‘til I die), GB ultra runner and still wondering what to do with that sitcom script…
I just heard some news headlines on the radio: "The Epstein Files have been released and President Trump is hardly mentioned." I wonder how that came to be?

"Jake Paul reveals he's broken his jaw in two places."
No, Anthony Joshua did that.

Can you help an old man with food, water, a bed or your company? (Not generally, I mean me.) In late April/early May 2026 I’ll be spending 12 days trying to run 1,000km from the Thames to the Tyne along NCN Route 1 (a rather longer but very much safer route than the M1/A1).

"We asked 100 people, 'how much will President Trump get in damages from the BBC?'. You said '£10 billion'. If that's up there, I'll give you the money myself."

As a kid, to stick a new poster on my bedroom wall, I had to take bits of Blu Tack from the backs of those already up. One morning I awoke to find most of them on the floor. I'm not sure why Reform's announcement about its proposal to gut the civil service reminded me of this.

🎶Woltemade, why don't you come to your senses?
You've been outjumpin’ defences for so long now
It’s not a hard one
But you seemed to forget
It was supposed to be in their net
You’ve right pissed off Eddie Howe🎶

For the past three years I've been hosting guests from the Ukraine, including a girl who is now 13. English is not her first language but she has become absolutely fluent. Shame on #bbcqt for conflating two entirely separate points. And for much else besides.
This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

Caption changes the meaning entirely
"Don't speak fluent English"

Wow
this is insane
New Home Office impact assessment finds that cutting skilled and social care visas will cost the UK up to £10 billion with a central estimate of -£5.4 billion.

It would be good if this got even a fraction of the coverage devoted to the endless debate about boats, flags and Turkish barber shops

First bit of business @shrewsburytown.com should do in January? Try to sign Sutton's left back. Not that any of you care. But at least I've got it off my chest. #salop

"OK, so I stabbed a few people, but football hooliganism was rife in the '70s so it was actually fine."

"Fancy a weekend in Newcastle?"
"Yeah, great!"
"Travel, accommodation, food and drink should cost us about £500."
"OK, but what about the tourism tax?"
"Puts it up to £505."
"No chance we're paying that!"

There are people on social media railing against a Budget measure that will lift tens of thousands of children out of poverty. I despair.

Nigel Farage is an arsehole. Of course, I don’t mean that in an insulting or hurtful way.

Boris Johnson has labelled the Covid Inquiry report as 'muddled' and 'incoherent'. In what must be the most excruciating irony bypass of all time.

It was a government that prioritised making money for its mates over saving the lives of its citizens. #CovidInquiry

You have to wonder how some people become fabulously wealthy in spite of being irredeemably thick.

Top tip: Seen a house you like but can't afford it? Just put up some flags on the nearest lampposts and watch the value plummet!

Working with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria I saw the tremendous value in the work being carried out and funded by its Violence Reduction Unit. If PCCs are to go, what happens to these vital interventions? 1/2

It was just like when Panorama put together a clip from two different parts of a speech by Alan Carr. In the first one he said "I am" and in the second one "a gay man", thereby totally misrepresenting him.
November 10, 2025 at 4:48 PM
I'd have been more shocked to see Panorama edit a clip in which Trump appeared to speak coherently.
