I’ve never seen mentioned outside of books is that although many early Americans were anti-Catholic (John Adams mb most well known), Madison/Jefferson were deeply suspicious of the Anglican Church due to the power it had in Virginia. Distrust of institutional religion k transcended Prot/Cath lines

The problem with religious scholarship in the past was people were tying any religious movement they could to whatever extant documents vaguely looked like the thing, now the issue is theres too many hypothetical documents

Im surprised no Old English translation of the BCP exists yet 🤔 I know many Anglicans see our origins moreso in pre-Saxon Christianity but I think there’s value in remembering Anglo-Saxon Christianity and how it was distinct from continental Christianity
